Ever a pinky nude devote, red lips are always a challenge for me; however, the semi-sheer wash of color that the rich, hydrating
Kanebo Sensai The Lipstick in #13 Momiji yields is enough to prompt a change of heart.

Retailing for $55, this formula (from one of my favorite beauty and skincare lines for life, I might add) is pure luxury. The heavy, light gold case comes in a velvet sheath and the bullet it enshrines is gorgeous indeed.

#13 Momiji is a creamy, semi-sheer, bright red with golden micro-shimmer that translates as glossy and robust. The formula is insanely hydrating and I get 5-6 hours of comfortable wear, even after the hi-gloss finish wears off. There is no scent (thankfully!) and, due to its moisturizing properties, my lips feel healthy and appear line-free when a fresh coast is applied.

In SENSAI’s deluxe anti-ageing lip colour, THE LIPSTICK, Golden Phyto Extract improves microcirculation and helps to deeply hydrate lips while gold particles veiled in silk powder ensure a rich, brilliant sheen.

Although the bullet is firm, once it is exposed to the warmth of one’s lips, formula becomes soft and melting, gliding over the the surface of the mouth with ease.

Bottom Line: Kanebo Sensai The Lipstick in #13 Momiji has captured my heart. The silky, ultra-hydrating texture, coupled with intense, yet completely wearable pigmentation make this a red I can readily embrace. Pinky nude favorites, beware…you may have some competition!

Love the color! This lipstick line is my favourite, especially shade 21 Shirafuji 🙂 They are amazing – so comfortable! Great review, you look gorgeous with a red lip 🙂 x
Hi Ellie,
Isn't this lipstick formula to die for? So hydrating and lush! I have to take a peek at Shirafuji…thanks for mentioning it. I so appreciate your sweet words!

Thanks, Isabel…it's a bit out of my comfort zone but I'm going for it! The things I do for this blog ; )

That red lip is gorgeous in you! Just wondering what bronzer and mascara you are wearing?

Thank you so much, Katie!
In response to your question, I am wearing NARS Matte Multiple Stick in Altai (review soon!) as a bronzer and the Surratt Beauty Relevee Mascara.

Glad to see you turning a new leaf as it were in lipcolor choices. Appropriate as momiji means maple (leaf or tree) in Japanese. Looks elegant and not at all over the top.
Hello Teadivamuse,
So lovely to hear from you! Thanks for your kind comment and extra knowledge! I so appreciate learning what Momiji means and adore how the meaning ties into this particular post (at least, for me!).
xoxo and have a beautiful weekend,

Gorgeous and your skin looks divine what foundation do you have in here?
Thanks so much! I am wearing a mixture of three different foundations (crazy, I know!): Suqqu Frame Fix (#002), Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream (#22) and Ardency Inn Custom Coverage Concentrate (Light-Medium Olive) with a dash of By Terry Lumi-Serum in #01, all mixed together in a little jar. Glowy, full coverage that looks like skin ; )

Hi BP!!
I have terrible, terrible (TERRIBLE) news.
First, the good news. I went to Bergdorf to buy this lipstick formula on your recommendation. I got shade MURASAKI 15 and it is soooo beautiful. Similar to Tom Ford Bruised Plum, but not as intense. I also got Vibrant Cream Colour in Fujibakama 08. It is purple. I couldn't help myself. I love it. I love love love the Kanebo line and especially the Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream. It is my very favorite foundation EVER and I owe that absolutely to you. So thank you.
The bad news: Kanebo is leaving the US completely in June. To get my foundation fix, I'll (we'll) have to mail order from Harrod's.
Let's pause a moment to grieve. 🙁
xoxo SJ
Hello SJ,
Good to hear from you and so glad you were able to pick up a bit of Kanebo before it leaves the country. I know…this news is so very disappointing. I actually felt sad for a couple of days before going to visit Kimmie at my KS counter and picking up some backups of favorites (including, of course, the foundation). I cannot fathom the reason for this decision and know that skincare and foundation lovers everywhere will be left with a KS-shaped hole in their hearts.
Mail order will be the way to go…can't wait to see what shipping will be. but for the goodness that is the KS foundation, I am willing to sacrifice.
I grieve with you.
xoxo and have a lovely weekend, my friend,

You can still get at Neiman Marcus I just ordered a ton of stuff today..
Hello Beauty Professor!
I have a friend who is still on the hunt for "the perfect lipstick" and I was hoping that you could assist me in the search. She is olive-dark skinned and dislikes any pink or nude colored lipsticks, so perhaps a dark yet vibrant red might suit her better. I am a bit inexperienced with beauty products and after skimming through your blog (which is extremely detailed and helpful) I figured you would know the best product for her! (:
Hello, Nicole!
Thanks for the question…I think your friend might adore this shade…no pink or nude undertones whatsoever. It is such a lush shade and would look amazing with olive skin. Other shades she may like are from Jouer…Grade and Ava are both amazing neutral to orange reds (also reviewed on my blog)!
I am so glad you have been finding my blog helpful and look forward to keeping in touch.
xoxo,
