Happy November; I hope your month is off to a lovely start!
We can credit the French with many things…insanely delicious baguettes, decadent Brie cheese and of course, iconic makeup.  Today, I am sharing three brilliant French beauty products and how I like to use them to create a fresh daily look.  Because these gems possess a spectrum of hues, I returned to my Beauty Professor roots and swatched them extensively, hence, the image-heavy post that follows!
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line…

(1) *Lancome Auda(city) in Paris Palette (also available at Neiman MarcusLancome, Macy’s and Bergdorf Goodman): This 16-shade compact features a gorgeous mix of matte and satin-finish neutrals that can be used dry or wet for maximum impact.  Designed by famed makeup artist and Lancome Global Creative Makeup Director Lisa Eldrige, the shades work in harmony to create an infinite number of looks, from demure and subtle to smoky and dramatic.
My observations are as follows:
  • The shade offerings are fantastic…admittedly, I am generally not fond of eyeshadow palettes because I find myself only using a few shades while ignoring others, thereby using each shade at a disproportional rate and creating waste.  The hues in the Audacity Palette, however, are extremely versatile.  I use the pale and shimmery shades as highlighters and the mid-toned neutrals as an overall wash of color.  To be fair, I haven’t yet dipped into the smoky charcoal options yet, but know that they will be useful to my aims at some point.
  • The shadows are finely-milled and pigmented…I am very impressed by how buttery smooth and color-yielding the hues are.  They swatch like a dream and have very little powder fall out. The shimmery shades are not overtly luminous, making them an excellent option for those who prefer a bit of radiance without a “glittery effect.”
  • Even without primer, the shadows are long-lasting and crease-free…I intentionally have been experimenting with the palette without primer to get an authentic experience with the formula.  Much to my delight, the shadow applies smoothly and lasts the entire day without any telltale creasing or migration.
  • This palette works on a spectrum of skin tones…because it contains a beautiful balance of pale and dark, matte and satin, and warm, cool and neutral options that can be built up for additional intensity when applied with a dampened brush, the Auda(city) Palette offers immense diversity for heterogeneous coloring.
  • In sum…if you are looking for a collection of shades that possess the capacity to strike the perfect balance between daytime appropriate and evening allure, consider Lancome’s Auda(city) in Paris Palette.

(2) By Terry Light-Expert Click Brush Foundation (also currently available at Barney’s NY and reviewed HERE): An update of the original version (which featured a flat brush), the new Light-Expert boasts fresh, more versatile shades and a flat-top kabuki brush that dispenses just the right amount of foundation to adequately cover the face in a single click.  I could never find a befitting match in the original installment but am happy to report that the new shade range has a light-medium warm beige hue (10 Golden Sand) that works well with my NC 25-27 skin.
 My observations are as follows:
  • The foundation offers customizable sheer to nearly full coverage…a singular click, blended out with one’s fingers, the built-in brush or even a Beauty Blender creates velvety, light- medium coverage that blurs imperfections, visible pores and unevenness.  Another click, strategically applied to areas that need more attention (in my case, the center of my face) offers nearly full coverage that still looks like natural, albeit perfected, skin.
  • It has all of the classic By Terry qualities…the fragrance is reminiscent of the Cover Expert formula; additionally, it is housed in a sleek purple (one of Terry De Gunzburg’s favorite colors) case, representative of the effortless luxury of the line.
  • Despite being rather liquid in nature, the formula is stalwart…I like to apply this over a primer (either Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge, Veil Sunset Light or the By Terry Hyaluronic Face Glow in #02 Nude) and find that its thin, liquid texture offers impressive coverage and lasting power for hours on end.  A dash of powder in my T-zone and I am touch-up free for the duration of wear.
  • In sum…this foundation is marvelous for those seeking buildable coverage with a slightly glowing finish; even though it is portable, I find that I don’t really need to touch up throughout the day.  In terms of coverage and finish it is a lovely combination of the By Terry Coverage Expert, Sheer Expert and Densiliss Foundation…tres magnifique~

Shade Descriptions:
  • 01 Rosy Light: Pale pink beige for the rosy alabaster skin (@N/NW 10-15) skin needing immense brightening.
  • 02 Apricot Light: Light, warm beige for @N/NC/NW 15 skin.
  • 04 Rosy Beige: Light, neutral beige for @N/NC/NW 20 skin.
  • 05 Peach Beige: Light-medium peachy beige for N/NC/NW 20-25 skin.  This will likely be my shade in the dead of winter.
  • 10 Golden Sand: Medium warm beige for N/NC/NW 25-30 skin.
  • 11 Amber Brown: Medium-dark warm beige for N/NC/NW 35+ skin.

(3) Viseart Muse Nude Lip Palette (also available at Frends Beauty): It’s no secret that I adore nude lips. That probably explains why I was entirely beguiled by this creamy lip color palette from one of my favorite independent makeup lines, which caters to professional makeup artists vested with the responsibility to create believable looks in an HD world.  Family-owned and deliciously niche, the Paris-based Viseart line crafts each and every palette in small batches that speak to the heart of this makeup lover.

 My observations are as follows:

  • The palette is brimming with options…from the palest of beige to the deepest creamy rose nude, there is no question that you will get your “nude fix” with the twelve shades housed in the case.  Mixing them to create the perfect hue further heightens the excitement!
  • The shades are pigmented and buildable…texturally-speaking, the lip color is not as thick as a MAC matte option, but that does not mean that the shades aren’t saturated with color.  One swipe offers light to medium coverage and an additional coat (which is definitely a reality when one starts mixing shades) builds to comfortable and inconspicuous full coverage.
  • The formula is creamy and hydrating…it also contains no scent to speak of; although I get respectable lasting power (3-4 hours), I wouldn’t deem this lip color “long lasting.” I don’t mind, however, touching up…my lip mix progressively gets more customized as the day moves on.  You can easily use your finger to impart color or, as in the images below, a small brush will also do; in said photos, I applied my selected shades with the Artis Elite Mirror Circle 1R Brush for maximum precision.
  • In sum…if you prefer nudes in the light and medium family, then this sleek yet bountiful palette is a must.  The shades are well-balanced and flattering and make even the most feel pedestrian beauty buff feel like a bona fide makeup artist.

I have the Viseart palette in Paris. It gets lots of use. Now, I'm looking at their nude lip palette. I was recently gifted with the Lancome Audacity palette. I haven't used it yet. I have been using the by Terry light-expert click brush foundation #05. It's a perfect match to my skin. It covers everything I want to cover and never looks cakey.
Thank you for all of the fabulous swatches and the wonderful post.

    Hi,

In the click expert foundation, will the Amber brown matches my Mac nc 43 skin tone. Is it versatile enough to match 10 shades up. Please do advice as it is capturing my attention? Thanks

      Hi Madhur,

Thanks for the question; Amber Brown is indeed the deepest shade in the range and the formula is rather sheer as to be adaptable but I couldn't say for certain. When swatched, it is definitely not NC 42 on its own, but you may be able to balance things out with bronzer etc. I hope that helps!

I'm quite fascinated by the byterry click foundation but I'm wondering about cleaning the brush part of it. Do you just not clean it? Ever?
Thank you for your amazing reviews as always!

      Hi Charli,

Lovely to hear from you and hope all is well! The BT foundation is so marvelous and with regards to your question, I really just use the brush to spread the product over a clean face and then use a Beauty Blender to do the heavy lifting ; )

      Hope that helps…XO,
