Beauty Professor Office Hours…

Kindly allow me to introduce you to Office Hours…these posts will be sporadically scheduled between conventional Beauty Professor reviews and tutorials and will feature a succinct round of BP-related news, events, products in the midst of being tested (yet not quite ready for a final review) and a preview of what is to come!

I have been mulling this term over for a while and am happy to finally be able to incorporate it into the blog on a regular basis.  Perhaps you remember your own office hours with a favorite professor?  I recall that while I might have initially arranged an appointment to discuss a project or paper, the conversation often segued to the here and now, making for much more riveting communication!  Since  becoming a professor and began maintaining my own office hours, I always make sure to try to bring a human element to the experience…yes, the “business” must be discussed, but I never want my students to leave without feeling like they had a meaningful exchange and made a personal connection.

I hope you enjoy the first installment of Office Hours and look forward to your feedback!

Above: PopSugar sweatshirt and pen.
Upon being invited to join the PopSugar Select bloggers, I received this unexpected sweatshirt and pen as a welcome gift…it’s just my size and completely warm.  I feel like I’m finally on a sports team, except we play with makeup and skincare instead of the usual athletic equipment!
Above: Glam Glow Supermud Mask…I love the sparkling and pristine packaging…so chic.
Speaking of which, I am in the midst of testing the Glam Glow Supermud Mask, compliments of Neiman Marcus.  This product is packed with skin-friendly ingredients and truly looks just like mud (pictures with a full review soon!).  I have noticed the Internet is abuzz with excitement regarding this mask and would love to know your thoughts if you’ve tried it.  Initial impressions: it is amusing to apply (totally caught my husband off guard when I came into the kitchen with this on…good times), enjoyable to wear (there is a pleasant tingling sensation) and, once washed off, my skin felt incredibly smooth and balanced.  So far so good!
Above: One might be compelled to ask, how many bloggers can you fit into a single cabana?!

Late last week, my mom and I attended a little roof top blogger gathering at the sleek London Hotel in West Hollywood, hosted by my friend and fellow blogger, Dawn McCoy of Beauty Frosting.  The weather was warm, the food and drink plentiful and the sunset, gorgeous.  It was a fun evening of mingling and conversation, all the while enjoying a beautiful summer night!

Above: Dawn McCoy and the Beauty Professor.
Above: That’s me on the left, fully engrossed in my interview with Napoleon Perdis.

The following day, I had the privilege of interviewing Napoleon Perdis, the genius behind the Napoleon cosmetics line.  He was at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills to introduce his new collection (which focuses on nudes tones…full review soon!) and I was honored to be a part of his schedule during his visit to LA.  His energy and warmth were palpable and I am so excited to feature our interview (as well as a myriad of pictures from our time together…so happy my mom was there to thoroughly document the event) in the very near future. I then caught up with the kind and knowledgeable Le Metier de Beaute Global Artist Ivan Castro at the LMdB  counter and he mentioned there are many new releases on the horizon (including 15 new lipsticks!!).  Thrilling indeed.

Above: BP with LMdB Global Artist Ivan Castro.
Above: Four new lippies, resplendent in a dish.

I’ve been on a bit of a pinky nude lip color buying binge lately (admittedly not healthy, but awfully pretty, no?!).  Above are four new acquisitions (Ususakura, Charmed, Native and Celebutard) that I wanted to share briefly (will do full reviews of each one soon).   In the meanwhile, enjoy the view ; )

Above: They may look similar in the tube, but once swatched, their unique and individual beauty comes to life!

A high tech beauty gadget with which I’ve been experimenting lately is the Quasar MD Plus (Neiman Marcus has been keeping me busy in this department!).  This medical grade tool emits beneficial red light, scientifically proven to combat lines, wrinkles and discoloration and also stimulates collagen production with regular use.  I have been using it nightly (the warmth is utterly relaxing) and I’m fairly certain Jethro finds it only slightly troubling…”why is mommy’s face glowing?” All joking aside, I love how soft and smooth my face feels in the morning, even after only a few nights of use.  These results have me extremely excited for the future; I will weigh in with a full review after proper month of usage has transpired! Have YOU tried a Quasar product?  Thoughts?

Above: I haven’t been this thrilled to wear a backpack since my first day of high school…back then it was Quiksilver and made of magenta plaid fabric.  The above is definitely an upgrade.
My brother Seth (www.sethwegter.com) just made me a leather backpack and I kid you not, it is pure luxury on two back straps.  This photo is simply a teaser of my upcoming installment of “What’s in My Bag?” which will include a serious round of interior and exterior images as well as a close up of the products I’ve been toting around as of late!
I just posted a video on my YouTube channel…inspired by the request of one of my subscribers, it covers some of my tips for looking your best on camera.  Whether you’re Vlogging, Skyping or iChatting, being on camera can be daunting and I was happy to share what I’ve learned regarding the process…oh yes, and there is mention of favorite beauty products as well ; )
The video can be viewed HERE.
Above: My pinky nude lipsticks threw a little party to cordially welcome the MacBook Air.
Finally, it brings me great joy to report that there is a new addition in the Beauty Professor household…an 11 inch MacBook Air!  While the bulk of the blog is maintained with the use of my trusty MacBook Pro, this featherlight wonder will help me to better maintain the blog on the go.
And that concludes this first installment of Office Hours…I look forward to your questions and comments (how is life for you right now?) and hope you found our session engaging!
xoxo,
–The Beauty Professor

I love my MacBook air. It's all I use for blogging.

I tried the GlamGlo a few weeks ago. I like it a lot better for spot treating than a mask.

Good to know, Arielle…so excited to add it to my little cache of computers; I know I'll be using it a great deal! Do you use the built in webcam for videos? I can see how the GlamGlow could be an excellent spot treatment as well!

hi rachel!! i really enjoyed this post! loving the office hours concept, for sure! i have so much to comment but, i don't want to type a "book" for you to read! neiman marcus!!! none in cincinnati. i carry all of my classroom belongings in an "enviro-sak" that i purchased in neiman's catalog. they come in 3 colors with neiman's name across and the butterflies all over. enjoy your leather backpack, absolutely gorgeous! ivan castro….wow!! LMdB is not available here as well. i'm wary to order anything, too much trouble to return it if it doesn't work. napoleon perdis? i'm a bit confused, his products used to be at my sephora. i now see it at target and ulta. i'm wondering if these products are older merchandise? on neiman's website, it said cinderella collection and the model was wearing red lips. i've been looking for a really beautiful, neutral pallette. i can't wait to see any reviews if you have them. congratulations on your MAC products. good news in cincinnati, there will be a giorgio armani cosmetic counter in september! right now, i'm scraping the pan on all of my makeup products. i heard clinique has all new eyeshadows. i'll keep you posted on what i get not sure if i can wait till september. question, at the end of your post what is the lipstick(tom ford?) on the left side next to the tom ford tube and in between the sensai color? is that tom ford lipgloss in naked? xxxxxxxoooooo to you and jethro!!!! i just love your dog!!!! wendy.

      Hello, Dear Wendy!

So glad you enjoyed this post concept…like I mentioned, I've been toying around with the idea for awhile and am happy to finally bring it to fruition! I know just the Neiman's bag you mean…so cute and very chic for the classroom ; ) That is a pity that you can get LMdB where you are…at least it is readily available online should you ever feel compelled to choose something. Here is what I know about the Napoleon situation…his line was carried at Sephora five years ago, then it left, but resurfaced at Ulta and his SET line (lower priced) arrived at Target a couple of years ago. Since then, he's been developing new products and maintaining his original line (he is from Australia, where the line is huge) and now has counters at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and select Nordstrom stores. This resurgence with the high end retailers was a part of the master plan for his line…not sure if the nude collection that I have is available yet, but I will have pictures and a full review up soon so hopefully that will be helpful! That is fantastic that you are getting an Armani counter soon…what an amazing line as well. In response to your question, the lipstick is a new release from Urban Decay lip color called Native…an opaque pinky nude. Yes, you have a great eye for the TF…the lipgloss is indeed Naked!

xoxo from Jethro and me as well…have a lovely day and talk soon!

    Hey rachel
Looved this post. So excited for any new LMDB info and also looking forward to your jouer post. I bought two of the cream shadow sticks Rococo which is a great base to all my eyeshadows as well as baroque. I do have cream eyeshadows in cashmere and organza which are nice but not as good. Maybe you'll have some tips on how to apply better. Love to know your thoughts on the rest of the line since I'm new to it. Thanks again

      Hello Melissa,

Thank you!! I will share some concrete LMdB info as soon as I have it and am currently working on my first Jouer post! I know the eyeshadow sticks you speak of…I have them both and they are gorgeous. In the testing phase, I have noticed that the shadow sticks seem to last longer than the cream shadows (which are beautiful but don't seem to stay in place as long). I am going to try the cream shadows with a primer to see if that makes a difference!

xoxo and have a wonderful day,

Hi B.P what a GREAT post. Love all the new & interesting stuff & the way u introduced it with office hours! How fitting! Just love to see how much you enjoy all things beauty & sharing it with us. I'm so happy for your new team,of select bloggers that is. Also it's wonderful for you to meet amazing fashion & cosmetic designers like N.Perdi or E. Bess. I'm very excited for all the new products from LMdB. Also love the unique, beautiful luxury backpack your brother made. I always liked the hands free of a backpack. that leather truly looks like butter. So glad you got a macbook. We have a Mac desktop & I have to say its my favorite computerin the house. We have had it about 6yrs. & never had a problem unlike our toshiba laptop. I'm interested in the outcome of the quasar. Other than my clarisonic & my Tria hairremover laser,I havent ventured into the light yet for wrinklesbut would love your input. After your post,I went to the jouer website & saw alot of nice things. Dangerous! haha I will sing the praises of their tinted illuminizing moisturizer though. Thankyou Thankyou for all the new things to come!! xoxo

    Dear Rachel,

I absolutely love the idea of office hours as I am just finishing my MSc and had great conversations with inspirational professors during their office hours.

I have been super dupper busy lately (dissertation writing!), but I read your last posts and would like to say you are clearly working hard to make this already great blog even better. Congratulations!

I report I managed to buy Le Volume de Chanel and couldnt be more pleased, it is truly phenomenal. As I have a wedding to attend next week, I am inclined to purchase Tom Ford Naked gloss, how does compare to the LM gloss?

BTW, I am waiting for LMdB Peau Vierge to arrive home, cannot wait!

    Cheers

      Thanks, Bianca!

Good to hear from you and thanks for your supportive words. How exciting that you are finishing your MSc! Dissertation writing is time consuming and extremely impressive…well done!

Thrilled to hear that you are loving the Le Volume de Chanel…I cannot believe how quickly and effortlessly it builds up the lashes. I am on my second tube of the TF Naked gloss (which is saying a lot in terms of how many glosses I try and use) and highly recommend it…Naked is a versatile shade and I think you'd love it.

Hope your Peau Vierge arrives for you ASAP…such a great product…just put some on this morning ; )

      xoxo and talk soon!

You are most welcome! It is a pleasure to follow your blog and read your posts between my article and book readings for the dissertation.

Le Volume Chanel is the perfect mascara, full lengh and volume with a single quick coat, love it!

I will report once I get Peau Vierge, I am quite anxious.

Tks for recommending TF gloss, I think it will pair just beautifully with a bronze smokey eye for the wedding I am a guest next Friday. While in TF counter, it might be too tempting not to get blush nude to go with the gloss. Rather worrying, I have to remind myself I am on sabatical pursuing my MSc studies, hence not full of cash to splurge. but… Who resists?!

      Thank you so much, Bianca!

I am happy that my TF recommendation is useful to you…it would be a fabulous shade to compliment a bronze smokey eye, indeed! Blush Nude would be an excellent pairing as well, but it would also look wonderful over the Spanish Pink you already own ; ) Can't wait to hear how it turns out…if you wish, do send me a picture from the wedding…Tom Ford makeup in action!

      xoxo and take care,

YAY for your Popsugar gear! I've been wearing my jacket around the house like a cool kid 😉 I got a large though, so it looks like I'm wearing my BF's jacket, haha! I saw a mini glamglow and almost bought it from all the rave reviews I've been reading… but, something tells me my skin won't care for it, I'm a little scared 😉

      Hi Krystal,

Seriously! What a nice surprise that was, my fellow PopSugar Select Blogger ; ) In my experience, the Glamglow is really potent as skincare goes…so many people say they like using it as a spot treatment too, which I've yet to try!

I hope your week is going well…xoxo,

This is a really cute idea for a series… I definitely remember my own Office Hours haha… as I gear up for grad school, I'm sure I'll have lots more in the near future too. I recently got a Sony laptop that's supposed to be comparable to the mac book air size and weight… LOVE it. I can take it anywhere

Thank you, Catherine! Grad school…very exciting…what are you studying? We've come so far with lap tops; I still remember my first MAC in college…I thought it was so sleek but in retrospect, it was quite a bulky little machine ; ) Glad you love your Sony!
