FOTD Christmas Eve…

Above: Homemade chocolate malt frosting flung all over the kitchen.
After spending the day baking a cake, making frosting, having a mishap with said frosting thanks to an errant brush with the lever of my KitchenAid (see above and below), washing the frosting out of my hair and clothes and making a copious amount of garlic bread in preparation for my family’s annual Christmas Eve gathering, I realized that I was left with only ten minutes to get ready for the big event!
This reality left me with no time for hot rollers, no time for false eyelashes, no time even for a full face wash, all as originally planned…instead, I had to get ready in a major pinch!
Above: Frosting lodged in my hair and on my clothing…lovely.
The look above was achieved was achieved in 10 minutes with the following products:
1. Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge #2
3. Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate #01 (applied at 10AM that morning as well!)
4. Rouge Bunny Rouge Bronzing Powder in At Goldcombe Bay (over the hollow of cheekbones)
5. Tom Ford Cheek Color in Frantic Pink (on apples of the cheeks)
6. Le Metier de Beaute Brightening Eye Powder in Refresh (applied over lids to create an even canvas for the liner)
7. Dolce and Gabbana Liquid Liner in #01 Intense Black (applied in a 60’s style winged fashion)
8. NARS eyeliner in Via Appia (blended under lower lashes)
9. Guerlain MaxiLash Mascara
10. Tom Ford Lip Color in Pink Dusk and Nude Vanille
11. Chanel Illuminating Powder (Spring 2013)
12. NARS Albatross Lipgloss
13. GHD 1″ Hair Straightener  (run over my ends to smooth and straighten)
Above: At least the cake turned out well ; )

      Hello Casey!

Why thank you…to be fair, I have had MANY baking disasters that have led me to this place of marginal competency ; )

      Hello Susan!

That first sentence made me smile ; ) Thank you for your kind words about my cake…this was a yellow cake with chocolate malt frosting (you have a good eye!). I just use a box of Betty Crocker Butter Recipe Yellow Cake Mix (the butter recipe makes ALL the difference) and to make the frosting, I combine a stick of butter, a package of cream cheese, a box of powered sugar and a random amount of pure cocoa powder and malted milk powder until it tastes the way I want it to…this frosting "recipe" is the result of lots of experimentation!!

Happy New Year to you, too…I am so glad that we've connected in this way!

Oh boy! Thank you so much for letting me know…guess what I'm making for daughter's birthday in Jan. (She's not here, but hey, good excuse to make a cake!) Is the malted milk powder the chocolate flavored one or the plain. I used to be able to get chocolate malt, but they don't carry it in our one store that's here anymore. Do you add the cocoa & malt by the tablespoon to taste/eye?

I love that were are connected too!! I'm really quite honored and flattered!

My pleasure! I just use the plain malted milk powder…I find that it cuts the sweetness of the sugar and makes the frosting oh-so-malty. I add the cocoa and malt straight from the containers, and by my rough estimation, it is probably two tablespoons of the cocoa and at least three of the malt!

Can't wait to hear how the cake turns out, dear friend….xoxo,
