Guerlain Le Rouge G in Grenade

Above: Guerlain Le Rouge G: is it art? No…it’s a lipstick!
Lately, I’ve been attempting to explore bolder lip options; although I will always be a pinky nude girl at heart, I am finding that, upon occasion, deeper, brighter shades are not as daunting as I originally thought.  Enter: Guerlain Le Rouge G in Grenade…a radiant, rose-based pink.  Although I’ve had a less than stellar experience with certain shades of the Rouge G (namely, the gorgeous, yet texturally disappointing Gabrielle), I am pleased to report that this particular incarnation from the formula is astoundingly smooth, long wearing and quite hydrating (all qualities where Gabrielle sadly fell short).
Did Guerlain revamp the Rouge G formula?  Could it be that some shades are more hydrating and stalwart than others?  One can only ponder…all I know for certain is that I applied Grenade at 10 AM and the creamy, rosy hue stayed intact until nearly 3 PM without a need for touchups; during this time frame, my lips remained balanced, moisturized and comfortable.
Kindly scroll on for additional details, swatches, images of Grendade on the lips and the Bottom Line…

Guerlain Le Rouge G
Above: Engraving one’s name on the metal case adds an element of personalization unattainable by traditional plastic lipstick tubes.
Here’s the official word from Neiman Marcus:
A shimmering, ruby-powder lipstick tucked inside a chic, Parisian case.

Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact contains a ruby-powder formula that interacts with the light and creates a jaw-dropping pout of perfection. At first glaze, lips will be left defined, smoothed, plumped, and hydrated.

Tucked in a compact that marries beauty with high design, with one click, you will have a luminous lipstick and mirror at your fingertips.

Designed by Lorenz Baumer, the most talented jeweler from the Place Vendome in Paris, it is the ultimate accessory of mystery and seduction.

Guerlain Le Rouge G Grenade
Above: The rosy-pink luxury of Grenade.
There is no doubt, Le Rouge G is pure luxury.  Featuring a weighty silver case, a sleek pop out mirror and rich, decadent pigmentation, this formula, like all Guerlain lip products, is lightly scented (but not at all bothersome).  The case that I happened to receive also had my name engraved on it (I understand that this is an option at many Neiman Marcus locations as well as when ordering directly from Guerlain)…talk about a personalization!
As aforementioned, Grendade is a bright, cool, rose-tinged pink.  It drenched with enough crimson pigment as to suffice for a classic carmine lipstick, however, I would deem this shade a bit more instantly casual and wearable than traditional red. The finish is satin, with the most delicate wash of micro-shimmer lending to its luminous quality; despite being fairly shiny, it is also incredibly opaque, even in one coat.
The lasting power is respectable…from the point of initial application, I experienced nearly five hours of touch-up free wear from this particular shade and all the while, my lips felt hydrated and smooth…divine!

Below: Images of Guerlain Le Rouge G in Grenade on the lips…it was a minimal makeup day for me…just some Cle de Peau Cream Foundation, Armani Sheer Bronzer #1 (the original version) and Napoleon Matte Eye Ink.  Grenade was the bold finishing touch!

Bottom Line: The Guerlain Le Rouge G in Grenade is lusciously bright and cheery.  The rose-tinged pink is reminiscent of the cherry pop-stained lips of childhood, albeit decidedly more chic and sophisticated.  I love the delicate satin finish, marvelous lasting power and nourishing formula and am glad that I found redemption (in the form of Grenade!) with the aesthetically wondrous Le Rouge G.
What is YOUR experience with the Guerlain Le Rouge G formula?  Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
xx,

Just wanted to say this color is absolutely stunning on you! And the personalized case is lush! I vote for you branching out of your comfort zone again. Although as one who seldom ventures too far out of my own 'color comfort zone' I know that is not an easy thing to do!

Thanks for the encouraging words! I am always hesitant to head into "dark lipstick territory" but sometimes one has to be brave ; ) Glad you understand!

Hi BP, I am loving the new LMdB powder, Lancôme Cils Tint lash tint, Eve Lom tinted moisturizer and JinSoon nail polish in French Lilac. Also, not new but new to me the Sunday Riley primer and loose powder and Tom Ford blush in Love Lust.

      Hello dear SJ!

Isn't the packaging incredible? So fancy yet useful!

Thanks for your comment about my skin…with Kanebo Sensai leaving the country, I have been engaged in a bit of foundation experimentation (for when my KS stockpile invariably is depleted) and currently have been impressed by the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation (which is what I am wearing in the pictures above). Need to do a full review soon!

xoxo and hope your week is wonderful thus far,

I love that lipstick on you! It shows off the perfect shape of your lips. The color looks so intimidating in the tube (gorgeous but intimidating), but looks soft and super wearable on. It's a nice change! I am a nude lip lover as well, but the other day I made my husband choose a color. I had 2 nudes, a soft red, and Chanel Mademoiselle (not sure how to describe the color) but not nude. He chose the Chanel which surprised me, but it was a nice change and super wearable. I think I need to expand, and I think Grenade could be a great start! Oh, and I LOVE how your skin looks in these photos!! Looking forward to the review on the Cle de Peau! 😀

    Hello dearest, dearest B.P!!!!!!!!

I am sooooo EXCITED to be finally catching up with you once again after an unexpected absence of sorts! It feels great to be online again and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading up on your wonderful posts. This shade looks absolutely stunning both in packaging and in the way that the glistening color catches the light. I must say that I am a fan of you wearing bolder shades, which I think highlight your beautiful cheek bones and face structure. As a 'bold' girl myself I can thoroughly attest to the convenience associated with putting on a rich color, and looking put together in record time. There is something exceptionally elegant about putting on a more pigmented shade which I feel speaks to more glamorous eras in the past, where women made more of an effort and where been ladylike was welcomed.

I look forward to immersing myself in all your previous posts and of course, your wonderful beauty guidance!

Sending you a big hug from Sydney,
