I am always game for a new nude lipstick; despite this fact, it has taken me quite awhile to pick up the demure NARS Pago Pago lip color. While at the Sephora VIB Rouge event in Tucson last week (yes, I attended even while on vacation…discussed HERE!), I found myself enchanted by this soft, pearly beige-meets-pink and took advantage of quadruple points when adding it to my basket.
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of both the Sephora VIB Rouge event and Pago Pago on the lips as well as the Bottom Line…
Above: The Sephora at the Tucson Mall was well stocked and full of beauty lovers, excited for the event.

Honestly, when I began to take pictures of Pago Pago (also available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Barney’s NY and Selfridges) on my hotel balcony, I was stunned by how photogenic it is…the subtle, pearlized shimmer adds unexpected dimension to the restrained pinky nude hue, causing me to want to capture image after image.

Here are the official details, courtesy of Sephora:
A pure, creamy lipstick formula for bold color. Nars Lipsticks are enriched with vitamin E to increase wearability and keep true color intact. Sheer finish creates the most natural, stained-looking lips. Semi-matte produces velvety, full-bodied lips. Finally, satin fashions creamy, moist-looking lips.

I find the Pago Pago formula to be as described; it has a remarkably smooth texture and hydrating properties that I don’t remember experiencing from some of my NARS lipsticks of the past. Additionally, while the first pass may yield sheer color, Pago Pago is quite build able and creating a creamy opaque lip (that still maintains its pearly finish) is easy with a couple of coats. My lips feel hydrated and comfortable over the course of wear and it doesn’t migrate or settle into lip lines.

The most trepidatious aspect of this lip color is adequately describing it tone. Sephora calls it “a shimmering pink” but I think that is an overgeneralization of its complex character. Although there are indeed pink elements present, there is also an overwhelming sense of beigey, almost peachy nude that is intensified by the pearl finish. In some ways, it is a “my lips but better” shade with a sophisticated, shimmering twist and, all in all, is an unique (and lovely, I might add) rendition of the nude lip.
Below: Images of Pago Pago alone on my lips in various lighting situations…
Bottom Line: I am absolutely smitten with NARS Pago Pago; its subtle, shimmering nude pink nature is gorgeous with a host of makeup looks, from ultra-natural to the smokiest of eyes, thereby making it an understated classic. Highly recommended!
Have YOU tried NARS Pago Pago? Thoughts?
Good things ahead in the coming days including beauty innovations, Fall 2014 collection swatches a-plenty and new beauty and skincare brand spotlights! Any requests?
Hi, Professor. I was wondering if you've had a chance to try By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur yet. I've been using the original for over a year now and love it, but I'm having difficulty finding much on the new tinted versions. Thanks for all you do for us!
Jaimie
I have indeed and have a post in the works with my shade (#1…the baby pink shade) as well as swatches of all three shades…thanks for reminding me to finish it ; )
Thanks for your sweet words and happy almost weekend…the post should be live in the next couple of days!
Wonderful! I had a feeling that was the shade you would choose. I'll look forward to the post! In the meantime, I may have to go check out Pago Pago. Happy almost weekend to you, too!
You just may need Pago Pago in your life…plus, the new NARS lipsticks are making their debut soon (full post on my picks soon!). So many good product releases in the fall, no?
