Sisley L 15 Baby Doll Rose Lip Color…Worth It?

It should come as no surprise that I love pink lipstick…my ability to continue to amass a collection of products in this color scares even me!  A few weeks ago, I came across this pink gem at the Sisley counter at Bloomingdales.  Normally, I am far from excited about purchasing from this line because of the exorbitant pricing; this time, however, I was lured by the gleaming color of L15 and and the fact that this formula purports to be both hydrating and long lasting which tends to be a relative oxymoron when it comes to lip color.
This shimmery medium cool pink retails for an intense $55 and is packaged in true luxury cosmetics style.  Sheathed in a velvet tube, the lipstick case is a beautiful polished gold tone with an prominent “S” carved into the top.
The lipstick bullet itself is a geometric feat, carved in a diagonal manner that is visually intriguing but rather cumbersome when it comes to actually applying the color!
As an art form, this lipstick is absolutely beautiful!
As mentioned previously, the color itself is a medium cool pink with subtle shimmer and a smooth satiny finish.  It reminds me most of Dior’s Corolle Pink (reviewed HERE) but has a bit more frost and slightly lighter tone.

There is a strong floral scent which was a little trying to me, but I can confirm that it does dissipate within the first half hour of wear.  In terms of staying power, the Sisley formulation isn’t making unsubstantiated claims; the color lasted at least four hours while my lips managed to indeed feel hydrated and supple.
Sisley L 15 alone on the lips.

Bottom Line: Despite its obvious strong points (e.g. beautiful saturated color, supreme hydration and remarkable lasting power), there were some drawbacks to this product that extended far beyond the unappetizing price tag.  Chiefly, I was disappointed to discover that this formulation contains lanolin, an ingredient to which I am wildly allergic (as are many individuals).  The symptoms of this allergy for me include a mild break out near product application (which occurred within the week that I was trying the lip color).  Generally speaking, most high-end cosmetic companies do not add lanolin to their products and I think I applied that assumption to my initial purchase.  Sadly, this lipstick was returned but I still felt compelled to review it for those without a lanolin allergy.

I recently bought the Sisleÿa Concentré Eclat Anti-Age. It smelled strange when I opened it, I tried it anyway. The result: bad rash all over my face. I then checked with Sisley and found out the the product expired 3 years ago!! I went back to Sephora France where I bought the product from, was offered an apology and a new bottle. The result, rash again. Guess what, the “new” product also expired 3 years ago. I complained to Sisley and am still waiting for their response. Has anyone else ever had similar experience?

    Hello Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing this…I haven't ever had to contact Sisley's customer service about anything in the past, so I cannot speak to a personal experience in this area. I will say, however, that I was disappointed to discover that such a high end, very pricey and well-established brand would add lanolin to their lip products in light of how irritating it can be to so many skin types! I am sorry that you got not one but TWO expired bottles of their Anti-Age concentrate…how bizarre and frustrating!

I wish you the best in this situation…please keep me posted and let me know what you find out if/when you hear from them.

Take care and thanks for reading,

Are you aware that LMdB lip products also have lanolin? I see a lot of reviews on your blog for the brand so I was surprised to read this post and your allergy to lanolin. I love LMdB and love reading your reviews on the brand, but just wanted to make sure you're aware. 🙂

      Hi Anon,

Thanks for your comment…yes, I am aware that LMdB lip products contain lanolin. For whatever the reason, they do not irritate my lips or make me break out when I use them. It is a happy surprise, indeed! Thankfully, the other products in the line that I use (e.g., Peau Vierge, Creme Fresh Tints, Classic Foundation etc.) do not contain lanolin because I am pretty much guaranteed that a face product containing lanolin with make me break out!

Take care and have a lovely rest of the weekend…xoxo,
