By Terry Cover Expert in #9…I love it just as much as #7!

I have not concealed my feelings about By Terry’s Cover-Expert Foundation…previous reviews I written can be found HERE and HERE and even HERE!  In short, it is a brilliant formula that provides superb lasting coverage, skin care benefits and a natural finish.

Honey Beige is a warm medium beige.

I realized however, that my tube of #7 Vanilla Beige, while perfect for my winter NC 20-25 skin, was much too light for my tanned summer NC 30+ countenance.  In turn, I picked up a tube of #9 Honey Beige and headed off into the By Terry sunset.  Read on for swatch comparisons and face pictures!

This medium golden beige shade does oxidize a bit once blended…this is not bothersome because I am prepared for it and pleased with the shade that develops!

Some of my favorite summer foundations (all about NC 30 or so) side-by-side for comparison and contrast.  Cover Expert 39 is definitely darker than the Kat Von D and probably closet to the Ellis Fass L104 in terms of shade and tone.
By Terry Cover Expert in #9 and L’Oreal Colouriche Colour Caresse Lipstick in Merino Mauve.

By Terry Cover Expert #9 is an excellent match for my summer tan skin.

I love the flawless coverage and natural finish of By Terry Cover Expert…it never disappoints!

Bottom Line:  My adoration for By Terry Cover Expert is no secret…this formula has it all…fabulous coverage, kindness to sensitive skin, good lasting power and a believable finish.  I am glad that I found a shade for summer and will be back to using #7 when winter rolls around and my skin forgets what the sun looks like ; )

I have the by Terry Plumping Fluid Foundation and love it. I have had it beyond the expiration date now. This one looks like it has better coverage, looks promising. #7 it is for me.

    Hello Rola!

Thanks for your comment…I haven't tried the BT Plumping Fluid but have been beyond pleased with every product I've tried from the line.

I do believe that the Cover Expert has the best coverage of all of her foundation offerings…do let me know what you think if you end up trying it!!

Your reviews are THE MOST helpful out there! I do have a question regarding the BY TERRY cover expert. I have very sensitive breakout prone skin. The first ingredient in this foundation is a silicone, have you experienced any breakouts because of this? I know you have mentioned having sensitive skin yourself, so I am wondering if you mean breakout sensitive or just sensitive to fragrances and harsher ingredients.

    Thanks so much!

      Hello Anon,

Thank you so much!! You are right…I have incredibly sensitive skin as well (and can breakout due to certain oils, fragrance, silicone and lanolin) and I usually shy away from silicone-heavy products. The Cover Expert, however, has not bothered my skin the slightest bit. Of course, everyone's skin is different, but I have never experienced a breakout from this foundation and I have gone through almost two full tubes ; ) I hope the same is true for you because this is such a lovely formula!

xoxo and let me know if you have other questions along the way,

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for your review of this foundation! I test drove this fndtn out this past weekend and thankfully I did not experience any irritation. After reading your endorsement, I think I'm going to take the plunge on this one =) I did want to ask if you finish it with powder, since I did feel just a tad shiny on the t-zone. Also, besides the Sunday Riley sunscreen, is there a less expensive sunscreen you might recommend for us super sensie gals that would play well with this foundation? Thanks so much! – Your fan, Jo

My pleasure, Jo! I am so glad you are having a positive initial experience with this formula. In response to your question, I don't set it with powder since it is so matte at the start, but I do touch up with a powder as the day wears on. In terms of sunscreen, I really like the Koh Gen Do UV Care Aqua Milk SPF 30; it is completely physical (like the Sunday Riley) and great for sensitive skin but much less expensive!

I hope that helps…xoxo to you!!

Thank you so very, very much for your response! It is so greatly appreciated! I will definitely be checking out that sunscreen. If it's not too much trouble, may I kindly inquire as to what powder you use to touch up with? Is it the new Surratt powder? Thank you again for everything!

      My pleasure, Jo!

I have a few favorite powders in my rotation…lately, definitely the Surratt loose powder compact, the Beauty Is Life Compact Powder (in light beige), and the Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Foundation Powder.

      Have a lovely weekend…xx,

    Hello,
    I absolutely love your reviews!
I am debating on which foundation to buy. The koh gen do aqua foundation or by terry cover expert. I have a yellow undertone. Its hard to find the right colour match, usually its really pink. Does the vanilla beige have any slight pink or red in it? Im looking for a medium coverage. I was wondering if you could help me out. I have really sensitive skin too.

      Hello Cathy,

Thanks for the kind words!! In response to your question, it all depends on the amount of coverage you seek. The Koh Gen Do Aqua is light, buildable to medium at max. The BT Cover Expert is full coverage, right off the top. The BT Vanilla Beige does not have any pink or red…it is definitely a neutral to yellow-based light beige.

Also, both formulas work well with my very sensitive skin…no issues whatsoever but the KGD is unscented and the By Terry has a distinct "By Terry" scent which isn't bad but definitely present.

      Hope that helps…xx,
