The Makeup Show LA 2014: A Photo Diary

Above: My press pass for the event.
For the last couple of months, I have advertised the arrival of The Makeup Show LA; this illustrious event recently took place on March 1-2, 2014 (Oscar weekend!) at the California Market Center in Downtown LA.  I was honored to be able to attend as a member of the press and, over the course of my attendance at both the Friday night blogger/press preview and the show itself, I documented the weekend with a copious amount of pictures.  I hope you enjoy this image extravaganza from one of the premier beauty industry events in the country!
Kindly scroll on for a multitudinous collection of captioned pictures from The Makeup Show LA…
Above: The blogger/press preview evening on Friday included a fascinating discussion by The Makeup Show Director of Education and Artists Relations James Vincent.
Above: The set up in full force on Friday night.
Above: James Vincent (who also is the Director of Education and Artistry for Ardency Inn!) and I had a wonderful conversation about the Ardency Inn Custom Coverage Concentrate (which I will soon be featuring again on BP).  I was honored to hear that he is  reader and supporter of this blog!  Mr. Vincent took us on a tour of the Kevyn Aucoin Icon Gallery (which premiered at TMS LA), featuring a stunning collection of Aucoin’s personal effects.
Above: I was awestruck by this list of quotes from makeup artists who worked with Kevyn Aucoin…first on the list, Troy Surratt (of the exquisite beauty line, Surratt Beauty)!
Above: A cache of books by Kevyn Aucoin.
Above: Actual makeup and lashes used by Kevyn Aucoin on various shoots…the red items are some of the first from his eponymous line.
Above: A closeup of some of the very first Kevyn Aucoin Beauty products.  If those lipsticks could talk…
Above: I was fascinated by the names on the lashes…Christy, Amber…Troy Surratt, who apprenticed under Aucoin, later told me that he was responsible for writing the names on the cases!
Above: Polaroids that Kevyn Aucoin collected over the course of his magnificent career.
Above: A poignant poem and self-portrait by none other than Aucoin.
Above: A lightbox and contact sheets…I love how the camera captured Aucoin touching up Christy Turlington.  Completely authentic…such a moment in time.
Above: As someone who goes insane for swatches, I was swooning at this board which featured swatches of EVERY product in the original Kevyn Aucoin Beauty line, swatched by Aucoin himself!
Above: Kevyn Aucoin doing what he did best…this image evokes the best of the 1990’s, no?
Above: At the blogger/press preview, I was finally able to meet (we’ve been “Internet friends” for quite awhile) fellow beauty blogger and YouTuber Naomi of Love2Primp.  It’s about time ; )
Above: At the helm of PR for The Makeup Show (amongst many other things!), the beautiful and endlessly organized  Melody O’Flaherty.
Above: The collection of amazing products in the blogger/press preview gift bag.  A closeup on many of these treasures soon!
Above: On Saturday…ready to take on the day.
Above: The penthouse floor of the CA Market Center affords gorgeous views of downtown LA from every corner of the building.  The Eastern Building is an Art Deco favorite.
Above: My blog assistant (and mom!), Laura, and me at the start of the weekend.

Above: Jouer Cosmetics made their TMS debut this year…what a pleasure to see this radiant collection in its entirety.
Above: BP and Jouer Marketing and Sales Executive Meredith Soichet.  We both are intense lovers of cheese and, whenever our paths delightfully cross, we consistently vow to share a plate in the very near future.
Above: This Jouer bag says it all ; )
Above: It is always a joy to be able to run into Jouer Cosmetics creator Christina Zilber; she is brimming with creativity, beauty and a zest for life!
Above: Beauty lovers perusing the aisles.
Above: After months of writing about his impeccable line and communicating online, I was blessed to finally be able to meet Makeup Artist extraordinaire and Surratt Beauty creator Troy Surratt.  We had an instantaneous connection and the most dynamic and effortless conversation about all things beauty…forty glorious minutes few by in a flash!

Above: I was happy to run into the charming James Vincent on Saturday as well; the expanse of his responsibilities at TMS makes him a very in-demand individual.

Above: Wayne Goss’ eponymous brush line also made its debut at TMS.  Here are two of his cheerful sales associates.

Above: Make Up For Ever for days…
Above: NARS…I ended up coming home with the “Roman Holiday” lip color…it only took me a decade to finally try it!
Above: The ever-clever Breakups to Makeup booth.
Above: I was able to see Naomi again on Saturday, as well as meet another “Instagram friend,” Missy of @pinkmissysparklez.
Above: Thanks to The Makeup Show LA for an absolutely excellent experience.
Above: Last picture at the show…if only I had room in my house for these brilliantly intense makeup lights.
Above: On the way home (via the Hollywood Muji store…more on that later!), we were up close  and personal with the Academy Awards (note the Oscar in bubble wrap).  Luckily the rain cleared up for Sunday’s fete!
Bottom Line: The Makeup Show LA 2014 was incredible!  The wealth of gorgeous beauty lines (with enticing discounts), opportunity to directly engage with beauty brand creators and sheer magnitude of products at one’s disposal make this a momentous event not to be missed.  I truly hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the weekend and encourage you to attend a show in your area. It will be in NYC (May 4-5), Chicago (June 7-8), Dallas (September 27-28) and Orlando (November 15-16).
Looking forward to your questions and comments…hope your week is going well thus far!
xoxo,

Looks like so much fun! Too bad it's only for people in the industry or those with licenses. I have heard this is a lot better and friendlier than IMATS!

      Hi Chris,

Thanks…it was indeed! Although there are many from the beauty industry, it is open to the public and tickets can even be purchased online in advance!

It is well worth attending if you are able…xx,

    Hi B.P,
HEAVEN that's about all there is to say about this. Looks completely amazing. Thanks for sharing, especially for the ones of us halfway round the world away.
Also what have you got on your lips? The pink is just gorgeous!
Now I have made a couple of comments on your posts that haven't shown up, one on you make up look for when you are in a hurry and I think a follow-up to the comment I left on the new La Prairie dry oil.
I just really wanted your thoughts on the Rouge Bunny Rouge primer I am looking to get a new one soon and wanted to know if you thought it was worth it, does it increase the longevity of your foundation? My skin is quite dry so would it be ok?

As always love your blog and take care and talk soon

      Hello Julie,

Thank you, my friend!! It was amazing indeed and I know you would have had a blast if you were here to attend.

I am wearing a combination of Armour Beauty Hello gloss and Surratt Beauty Lipslique in Fee Soie (to lighten it slightly). Both formulas are favorites!

I am so sorry to hear that some of your comments haven't shown up…I shall investigate this!

The Rouge Bunny Rouge Primer is fantastic…I have been using the Genesis Original Skin version daily and love the way it fills in pores and fine lines and makes my makeup last all day. I think it would be great for dry skin…the texture is very nourishing.

Thanks for being such a lovely and loyal reader…xoxo and talk soon,

Oh, what a fun day this must have been. Lucky you to be able to attend and lucky us to enjoy it through your eyes and blog post! I am wondering if you picked up any of the Wayne Goss brushes. I have a few and the one you featured, the face brush, is my new all time favorite face brush. It applies foundation like a dream! I received a notice from Beautylish that they were going to be releasing yet a new line from Wayne Goss, I don't know how that face brush could be improved on!

Can't wait to see the reviews of all the goodies you picked up! 🙂

OMG! I have Wayne Goss brushes too, hubby got me for Christmas last year and yes, that face brush gives the most beautiful finish. His brushes are just lovely!

      Hi Laura,

I felt very fortunate to be able to attend…so close to home and all sorts of fun! I didn't end up getting any of the Wayne Goss brushes but can attest to their beauty. I have been using a new set from Jenny Patinkin (full review soon!) and they are so fantastic, I didn't feel the need to add to my collection ; )

I will have reviews of my new products very soon…xoxo,
