Happy Friday, lovelies…I hope your week has been kind. I’ve, for one, been entrenched in meetings, long lectures and finals, all while battling a hideous cold that has severely compromised my sleep (e.g., 1 hour here, 2 hours there…). That being said, yesterday took a turn for the better with a gorgeous poolside beauty event (more on this soon!) at the stunning Mondrian Hotel. In turn, I am happy to share both a casual FOTD that employed all my favorite products for feigning a rested (and well, for that matter) look and a closeup of my latest pair of Rag & Bone booties (initially discussed HERE).
Kindly scroll on for more details, images and the Bottom Line…
Above: The pristine pool deck, unencumbered by humanity, at the Mondrian Hotel.
Above: The fusion of foliage, wood decks and white accents conveys a utopian energy.
Above: Key components for feigning a rested look.
Beauty Details:
*Bioderma Sensibio H2O to cleanse (reviewed HERE)…with a cotton pad, this has become a daily staple as of late.
Marc Jacobs Poutliner in Honeybun (reviewed HERE)…this has been my go-to liner for months. One simply cannot beat the long lasting light peachy pink tone of this creamy, retractable pencil-meets-crayon.
Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lipgloss in Moonglow (review soon)…this pinky beige gloss is ultra shiny and opaque enough to make lips look full and plush. I absolutely prefer the new MJ gloss formula to the original!
I simply adore the Rag & Bone Newbury Ankle Boots. The super soft (yet sturdy) leather molds to the foot, making the 3-inch heeled beauty a break-in free enterprise. I must admit, the color initally threw me for a loop (to streamline things, I tend to go for black or tan in footwear…no brown or gray) but I decided to treat this taupe as a “neutral” and find it works very well with my black, tan and denim wardobe. Although I originally mentioned these boots in my most recent Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale top ten list, I have discovered that they have since sold out in the last 24 hours. They are, however, still available (on sale, no less!) at Neiman Marcus and Rag & Bone.
Above: The toe cap is almond shaped…sleek enough to look chic but still spacious enough for sensitive toes (like mine) and those on their feet all day!
Above: The slightly luminous leather is not metallic but the sheen adds a special dimension that makes these boots truly neutral.
Above: They run bascially true to size…I can get away with a 7 or 7 1/2 but settled on the 7 /12 for extra comfort since the heel height is substantial enough to require such a precaution.
Above: The black stacked heel further lends to its neutral capabilities.
Above: The zipper pull on the back of the shoe make them easy to put on and take off…brilliant.
Above: Last look.
–Shop the Post–
Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this causal FOTD…the products utilized definitely possess the capability to make one look more well-rested than they actually are! Also, if you are even thinking about the Rag & Bone booties (currently still in stock at Neiman Marcus and Rag & Bone), I highly suggest pursuing them sooner, rather than later…I was beyond surprised how quickly they sold out overnight at Nordstrom!
What are some of YOUR favorite products for feigning a rested look?
Good things ahead, including a new lip color intensive and skincare routine update…plus, I’m working on a video or two this weekend ; )

With enough coffee and judicious use of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, ANYTHING is possible!
I, too, use Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, but I prefer Moonstone in the pump bottle in order to mix it with foundation. Although Retinol accelerates the turnover of healthy new skin cells in the long run, I crave instant gratification when work piles up. The Shimmering Skin Perfector very much deflects any kind of "work ethic hangover" on a tired face.
I will likely use a generous dose of Moonstone on my face (esp. under the eyes) when my boyfriend visits tomorrow after my exam, because whittling my notes into a 3×5 card feels to me the way editing the Lord of the Rings movies to under 8239874234 hours each felt to the director Peter Jackson: every bit of information is too precious to let go, and thus the process becomes an all-nighter…
Not surprisingly, the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector was introduced to me by a classmate who is by far the most chipper, bubbly, energetic pre-med/aspiring MD-PhD dermatologist I have ever met, and the Shimmering Skin Perfector totally amplifies these qualities visually. Like you, she uses Opal, but like me, she prefers the one in pump. NO ONE believes her claims of having actual under-eye darkness, so I guess that means the one in the pump can be mixed with concealer to effectively be a Costco-sized YSL Touch Eclat formula…? There's some sort of "look good = feel good" positive feedback loop she has going on, and when her ambitions come true, I have no doubt she'll spread the love to the rest of us if she chooses to apply her bioengineering knowlege to her Sephora addiction!
Ahh…more love for the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. I had read the accolades for years and only recently decided to give it a spin. Now I understand all of the praise. Somehow it just enhances the face in every way possible! I totally understand the "work ethic hangover" (LOVE them term) and this does indeed help!
Thanks for sharing the many ways in which the Becca can be implemented…the details are fascinating!
BP you look positively stunning, and those booties!! Love this entire look so much! I hope you had a fantastic week and have a wonderful weekend ahead!
