Spring Office Hours: Wayne Goss Foundation, My LTK Commercial and Current Product Loves
Happy almost summer to you, dear readers. This might be the longest I’ve gone between posts on Beauty Professor in over 10 years. There has been a lot going on over here and I am excited to use this space to catch you up on some of the current events here at BP HQ. First, I recently filmed a national commercial with LTK and it is already airing!
Have you caught it yet? More on the entire experience a little later in this story…in the meanwhile, I’ll be covering the new, very excellent Wayne Goss Luxury Cream Foundation, a restorative hair treatment, my time with the incredible Marla Aaron, a few beauty events, summer makeup launch loves, a next-level facial and more.
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of everything in action as well as the Bottom Line…
Foundation
I have been diligently testing the *Wayne Goss Luxury Cream Foundation and, in true BP fashion, am thrilled to bring you sunlit swatches of all twelve shades. This dense and emollient cream features buildable coverage. It’s sheer all the way to full. It’s with a skin-loving finish that looks fresh and youthful, natural yet perfected. Free of fragrance and SPF (a double win in my opinion). Also, the foundation is creamy enough to play well with all skin types and ages while delivering a surprisingly long lasting wear time. Moreover, especially for a cream formula. In my experience, it resists oxidizing and does not pool or settle into pores and fine lines.
After applying my daily Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge #3 (use BP20 for 20% off site wide), I like to use a beauty blender to apply shade #6 (my perfect match for NC 35 skin), starting in the center of my face and blending outward. It becomes one with the skin with minimal effort and provides a customizable coverage that makes this formula a winning option for many.
Also new from Wayne is *The Weightless Powder, which creates a smooth, velvet matte finish. Translucent and talc-free, the powder is super finely milled and can be used to bake, set and refine. Also, a little goes a long way and even though it reduces unwanted shine, it also imparts a diffused luminosity that creates depth and dimension on the skin.
// STYLE NOTES //
For a day at Knott’s Berry Farm with my family, I embraced a ribbed beige tank (in a m/l) and my trusty AGOLDE Dee shorts (size 27). Moreover, the finished the look with the most comfortable shoes on the planet by On Cloud. All three pieces are wardrobe staples…highly recommend for the warmer months ahead.
Tiffany Scott Salon
Next, I often get asked about who does my hair. My mom has cut it my entire life and I don’t color it, but recently, I had a glossing treatment at Tiffany Scott Salon in Corona Del Mar and am thrilled to shed light on her expertise. Tiffany is known for her revolutionary extension technique and, while that is not something I’m looking for, I’m impressed by how she customizes her options to help those dealing with hair loss.
Now, more than ever, thinning hair is a serious concern for many women. Illness/post-covid, hormonal imbalance and aging are all contributors to this issue. Extensions, when done properly, can masterfully restore the confidence lost when excessive shedding prevails. Tiffany gave me a clear gloss (this treatment is safe for all hair types). The treatment is to add moisture and shine. Also, I couldn’t get over how soft and luminous my hair was after the process. I’m looking forward to getting another one in a few months! With Marla Aaron
I have been Instagram friends with famed jeweler Marla Aaron since the earliest days of Beauty Professor. 10 years ago, we were both starting our businesses and connected, organically, thanks to a mutual love of luxury makeup. Fast forward a decade and both of our early stage creative outlets became fully fledged full-time businesses and, although we stayed in touch regularly, we never met in person until a couple of weeks ago when she visited LA! It was such a special moment (just like her jewelry) and I picked up a lock for my mom (I wear a medium rose gold lock daily) and a couple of ear cuffs (my years aren’t pierced so I love this option) and am afternoon of memories. Do you have any Marla Aaron pieces?
Also, this month, we had the chance to attend a fun Too Faced event at The Grove in LA. This was one of Joey Elle’s first events since she was a baby (e.g., the whole world all but stopped for a couple of years) and we had a great time celebrating the launch of the new shades of the Lip Injection Maximum Plump formula. Incidentally, I had actually purchased this lip gloss a few weeks earlier and the clear version has become one of my favorite plumper ever. It’s extra tingly (don’t mind this a bit) and wildly shiny and it really does deliver noticeable lip volume on contact.
LTK Commercial
Back to my LTK commercial! A few months ago, I was invited by a company I’ve worked with for years to audition for their first ever commercial campaign. LTK (previously rewardStyle) has supported me as a creator with opportunities to earn through affiliate commissions and brand collaborations and has been a trusted partner as I’ve grown my Beauty Professor business. During the audition process, I was asked to share a time that something I tested (it’s makeup testing central over here) didn’t go as planned.
Because I use my long lecturing days to calibrate the performance of makeup that I ultimately write about in this space, there are of course moments that certain products don’t deliver. One instance, when I was testing a liquid liner and was told (by a student, no less) at the very end of my 10-hour day that I had “black all over” my eye (good times), came to mind and it ended up being the premise for the entire commercial!
After many candid discussions with the LTK team, a serious focus on staying true to myself and all that I stand for here at BP and plenty of prayers, I was offered the part and filmed the spot in late March. I am so grateful for how open and honest the filming process was. Also, I was able to wear all the makeup that I wear regularly in real life and had significant input in my wardrobe and even my lines so the final result was as authentic as possible.
So, I love how these commercials bring light to how hard some creators are working to share personally vetted, trustworthy recommendations with their communities and feel like it’s validating in a world where there’s plenty of (very justifiable) influencer distrust. I’m truly excited for the future of BP and promise that I will continue to bring you my honest, real life reviews for as long as my fingers can continue to type them.
Watch the Commercial
The commercial (catch it on live and streaming TV and watch it HERE) debuted on 5/2/22 and LTK flew me, Joey Elle and my mom to Dallas for the launch party which was held at the historic Granada Theater. Here are some moments from the celebration…
Lips Options
On to some beauty products that have taken me though the last few weeks. First, for lips, my daily mix has been the Makeup by Mario Smokey Pink liner (creamy and long lasting in a medium deep neutral hue that makes a little over-lining a breeze), topped with my au Naturale LA lip stain (reviewed HERE), which is the creamy opaque peachy pink of my dreams.
It’s been sold out for the past few months and just got restocked this week. For some multidimensional luminosity, I finish this combination with a swipe of the Byredo lipstick in Feverish. This pearlescent mixture of pink, peach and nude tones imparts an incandescence that make lips look full and glowing…I love (and use) it so much that I purchased two backups.
Foundation
Ever on a quest to stay healthy in the midst of an insane schedule (the end of the semester is just two weeks away!), in addition to a litany of vitamins, I make sure to take two supplements daily. The first is the Pique B-Tox Fountain, which contains no sugar or artificial sweeteners (impeccable ingredients, actually) and tastes like pink lemonade. Infused with hyaluronic acid and ceramides, this electrolyte beverage seamlessly mixes into water and, when served over ice, tastes like a treat while supporting skin and optimal hydration levels from the inside out.
I also add a scoop of the Agent Nateur Holi Mane (use AGENTRACHEL for a friends and family discount site-wide) and blend with a frother. This top of the line marine collagen supplement has zero flavor and also contains pearl powder (only iteration on the market with this added benefit), helping to fortify hair, skin and nails with every serving. My mom and I both purchase this monthly and never want to be without it…the results are palpable.
Cheek and Eye Shade
If you’re looking to integrate a bit of summer into your life this minute, then the *Chantecaille Sunbeam Cheek and Eye Shade is a must. The one-of-a-kind neon green compact features a coppery gel-meets-powder that can be worn as a bronzer, blush or highlighter. It depends on your skin tone. Also, is buttery enough to blend onto the eyes for a burnished and monochromatic look. The texture is opulently smooth. The shade is insanely flattering. It’s one of my most favorite Chantecaille LE launches of life.
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk of Dreams Luxury Eye Palette
For eyes, I’m in love with the *Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk of Dreams Luxury Eye Palette. This version features rosy warm tones with a radiant finish; the color payoff is so significant, that I can create an entire eye look with just my fingertips (as I did in the image above). The foiled effect hues resist creasing while wearing smoothly for hours.
Flora Mirabilis Experience
Finally, earlier this week, I had the privilege of experiencing a facial with Jordan LaFragola at her ultra-private Flora Mirabilis spa in West Hollywood. Originally a bungalow built in the 1920s by Charlie Chaplin (be still, my silent movie-loving heart). It has a treatment room is lush, light and rife with plants. The environment is extraordinarily serene. Also, Jordan, who amassed an ardent following during her tenure at The Beverly Hills Hotel Spa, is a delightful human with utterly magical hands.
She hand crafts all of the formulas used during the facial–including the potent and effective Flora Mirabilis Face Oil–in house and embraces the power of clean and natural ingredients to transform the skin in a single session. In full transparency, I rarely get facials. I think I’ve had four in my entire life. But, upon completion of my 60-minutes with her, I told Jordan that if all my facials were like hers. Also, the neck massage was an unexpected yet welcome surprise. I would want to get one regularly. My skin was left g-l-o-w-i-n-g.
