Above: Jenny Patinkin’s Lazy Perfection brush line is both visually stunning and entirely pragmatic. |
I have never been one to go crazy for makeup brushes…ever on a quest to save time during my morning makeup ritual, I have pared down my efforts and supplies, thereby determining that I can create a full face (suitable for my professional teaching job) in less than seven minutes with two or three brushes maximum. If I may be so honest, I’ve resigned myself to the reality that my desire to get every last minute of sleep in the AM supersedes my will to meticulously apply makeup!

That being said, I am sure I have taken some less-than-preferable shortcuts (e.g., applying and smudging eye shadow with my ring fingers and using the same–gasp–makeup brush for bronzer and blush) that, upon a fleeting glance in the mirror, demand some form of emergency attention later on in the morning. Consequently, when I was given the opportunity to try the immensely talented Chicago-based makeup artist Jenny Patinkin’s signature line of brushes, I felt both excited and bemused (how will I use them all?!) by the prospect.

Jenny Patinkin’s Lazy Perfection perspective (also available at
Space.NK and
Joyous and espoused at her
Dollface Beauty School) postulates that
beauty doesn’t need to be complicated in order to be flattering; this
minimum effort, maximum results mentality completely resonates with my personal aesthetic and I was immediately intrigued by the notion of finely-crafted tools (namely, makeup brushes) that could skillfully help me to continue to create the easy, natural looks towards which Jenny and I both gravitate. After a few months of use, I am astounded by the way in which I have effortlessly integrated the ultra-luxe Lazy Perfection brushes into my routine; each of the tools in her
12 Brush Complete Collection have received regular usage, transforming my process into one of relaxed precision and beautiful results!

Above: The Large Domed Powder Brush (made of Blue Squirrel and Goat hairs) is decadently soft and well-suited to applying powder. |
Bottom Line: As one who was admittedly makeup brush-phobic, I am happy to report that the stunning
Jenny Patinkin Lazy Perfection line has forever changed my mind about the role of tools in my routine. My morning makeup application is still as expeditious as ever, but instead of being occasionally cavalier and haphazard, it is refreshingly precise while still reflecting the natural, laid-back beauty look that I prefer. Highly recommended!
Hope your week is going well…the weekend is almost here ; )

Wow, the All-Over-Face-Brush is sooo similar like Wayne Goss brush 01 which is my favourite brush. It would be so cool if it gives the same airbrush finish!
Hi Shireen!
The All-Over Face Brush is incredible and definitely a go-to for me each day…it buffs like nobody's business ; )

Are these made of squirrel or goat hair?
The hair used with each brush type varies…for example the All-Over Face Brush is a combination of natural and synthetic hairs while others are a hybrid of squirrel and goat hair.
Jenny's website (linked in my post) is a wealth of information as well!

Tried that, her website doesn't list which brushes are made with which hairs. It doesn't list the particular type of hair on any of the brushes actually, just says 'made with the best quality materials.'
These brushes look really beautiful but with the competition being so specific about Blue Squirrel or Soft Goat, combination, etc, I think she will need to do that as well. There is a huge difference in brush performance depending upon the hairs. (Coming from someone who has been collecting many brands of Japanese brushes – Suqqu, Chikuhodo, Hakuhodo, and now Goss, for years!)
Hi Anon,
Here is the composition breakdown for each brush:
Large Domed Powder Brush – Blue Squirrel and Goat
Flat Fluffy Cheek – 100% Blue Squirrel
All Over Face – White Goat and Synthetic
Kitten Paw – 100% Blue Squirrel
Concealer – Synthetic
Domed Multi Blender – White Goat
Pin Point Liner – White Goat
Eye Shadow Basic – 100% Pine Squirrel (a little more dense than Blue Squirrel – delivers a more opaque wash of product)
Domed Eye Contour – 100% Blue Squirrel
Flat/Fluffy Eye Definer – 100% Blue Squirrel
Eyeliner Smudge – Horsetail
Eyebrow Brush – Badger
I, for one, am completely impressed with the rundown! Also, Jenny relayed to me that all the hairs in her line are first cut, meaning that they have uncut tips that are softer than blunt cut tips (think of the hair on your arms vs the hair on your legs after you shave – the stubble is blunt cut). Mass produced lines are generally blunt cut. Finally, her line is 100% cruelty free!
I hope this helps…xx,

What are these made of?
Hello Sylvia,
Please see my response to Anon above (I just published it!).
xx and thanks for your interest,

I love Jethro's appearance. What a cutie!
These brushes are similar to some Wayne Goss ones I already have, so I'll be taking your tips to my applications. I need to check out that first brush you show in the video. I don't own a brush like that.
first time commenter here, love your blog 🙂
Thanks so much, Erica! I appreciate your comment and am glad you enjoy my blog ; )
These brushes are incredible and were released a couple of years ago so their place in the market is well-established amongst independent brands. The first brush is wonderful…I use it daily!
Have a beautiful rest of the week…xx,
