My lecturing days can get long; on one particular day, I pull twelve hours and, consequently, heavily rely on my roomy work bag to tote around essentials that keep me feeling fresh and put together. From foundation and touch up powder to deodorant and mints (not to mention my trusty laser pointer!), here’s a peek into what I tote around on a daily basis.
Kindly scroll on for more details and swatches as well as the Bottom Line…
One product that I’ve been carrying around with me for years is deodorant; I generally only apply deodorant right after showering each night, but on long–especially warm–days, I may need extra reinforcements so I always have a Dove Advanced Care in Cool Essentials within reach. I love that it provides 48 hours of protection in addition to skincare benefits with its NutriumMoisture formula for softer, smoother underarms.
Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant Deodorant Cool Essentials 2.6 oz combines the reassurance of up to 48 hours of antiperspirant protection with the refreshing scent of cucumber and green tea. In addition to keeping underarm wetness at bay for up to 48 hours, the 0% alcohol (ethanol) formula helps delicate underarm skin to recover from the irritation that regular shaving can cause. The formula also includes Dove NutriumMoisture and unique ¼ moisturizers, for smooth underarms that look and feel softer with regular use. If you’ve been wondering how to get soft armpits, choose Dove Cool Essentials for touchably soft, smooth underarm skin and a scent to awaken your senses in the morning. To use, apply this antiperspirant deodorant to dry skin after showering or bathing and enjoy fresh and comfortably dry skin all day long. For best results, make sure your underarm skin is cool and completely dry before applying, and give each underarm a few swipes for even coverage. At Dove, our vision is of a world where beauty is a source of confidence, and not anxiety. So, we are on a mission to help the next generation of women develop a positive relationship with the way they look – helping them raise their self-esteem and realize their full potential.
• Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant Deodorant Cool Essentials 2.6 oz, up to 48 hours of antiperspirant protection • Contains Dove NutriumMoisture and ¼ moisturizers • Underarm skin looks and feels softer with regular use • Refreshing, cool scent of cucumber and green tea • 0% alcohol (ethanol) formula is kind on underarms • Antiperspirant deodorant glides on easily
Essentials.
I recently had the opportunity to interview Miami dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba regarding deodorant and other skincare trends…I hope you find our exchange interesting and inspiring:
Beauty Professor: How do antiperspirants work?
Dr. Barba: The way antiperspirants generally work is that the active ingredient temporarily blocks the release of sweat from the sweat ducts. The salts dissolve into the skin and forms a protective layer over the mouth of the sweat ducts, which reduces perspiration in the underarm.
BP: Should we put deodorant on in the morning or at night?
Dr. Barba: You can put your antiperspirant on at any time of the day that is most convenient for you. If you have sensitive skin after shaving, it’s ideal to shave in the evening, and apply antiperspirant in the morning after your skin has had a chance to recover overnight. You can also look into a fragrance-free antiperspirant for sensitive skin that has moisturizers, which can be gentler on recently shaved skin. I recommend Dove Advanced Care because it offers 48 hours of protection plus skincare benefits with its NutriumMoisture formula.
BP: What inspired you to be a dermatologist?
Dr. Barba: I had a wonderful dermatologist growing up. The power of topical products and medicines to transform the skin was intriguing to me and I identified with a specialty where “creams” are the mainstay of treatment. Intuitively I felt that as a woman I could be successful in this specialty. I do not regret it for a minute and I often encourage young women going into medicine to consider dermatology. It is now the top specialty in medicine and the hardest to get into.
BP: What are the biggest challenges facing women and their skin?
Dr. Barba: One of them is definitely not understanding, early on, the role that sun damage plays on premature aging, sun spots and skin cancer. The sun damage in your teens and 20s will have an effect on how skin looks in your 40s. Also, the desire for “perfect” skin based on photo shopped images in the media. No one has flawless skin everywhere like we see in magazines. Trust me, I know! I take care of some of these gorgeous men and women and I am happy to report they have the same issues as you and me.
BP: What is one thing all women can do to improve their skin in 30 days?
Dr. Barba: Learn to read labels and learn about the “active” ingredients in skincare. They truly make a difference and have the power to transform the skin.

Hi Rachel! I don't know what there is about looking in another gal's handbag but, we are all curious, I imagine. You have a great selection and everything that anyone would need to look polished and beautiful. My bag much less but I also have a small Moleskin sketchbook for ideas and sketching scenes and faces with a couple of my favorite pens. Great and fun post. Love the bag!
