How Académie Hair Was Born
Two and a half years ago, I finally decided to act on an idea that I couldn’t get out of my head. And that’s when the Académie Hair was born. As a 13-year beauty writer and content creator, I’ve been grateful to be able to try more product launches than I could ever hope to quantify. But this access to newness has also given me a keen perspective on the white space…more specifically, what I wish existed. After much prayer and deliberation, I opted to embark on a self-funded entrepreneurial journey with the intention of creating the formula of my dreams…Sea Glass.

I worked with a local lab to develop Sea Glass from scratch. I’ve been hands-on in every single part of process. From product ideation and formula testing to asset creation and marketing. This experience has enabled me to utilize all of the skills I’ve learned over 13 years of Beauty Professor, while forcing me to learn some vital new ones along the way. They say that necessity is the mother of invention and Académie Hair–a gentle nod to the academic energy of BP–is the culmination of this perspective. I started my brand in response to a personal need for an effective detangler without the weigh down. Prior to Sea Glass, everything in this category that I have ever tried either feels lightweight but doesn’t release tangles, or reduces snarls but makes my hair feel flat, oily and in desperate need of a wash.
What Makes Sea Glass Unique
This is where Sea Glass is utterly peerless in luxury and efficacy. There is nothing else like it on the market. After several iterations and over a year of testing on my own hair (and the hair of beauty friends around the world), the final formula came to fruition. Clean (vegan, sulfate and paraben-free and cruelty free) and water-based with a minimalist ingredients list that includes sea kelp and caviar extract. This nourishing yet lightweight elixir will change your relationship with brushing your hair. My Hair Routine with Académie Hair
Objectively, brushing our hair is the best way to increase blood flow to the scalp. It contributes to the wellbeing of our hair. More meaningful brushing equates to better hair health. In order to keep hair firmly rooted when brushed, detangling is a crucial component in the process. I use Sea Glass every single time I brush: on wet hair after washing, on dry hair before heat styling and as a mid-day refresher. It’s the (now, not-so) secret to my hair strength and vitality. Truly my dream product brought to life–and I am thrilled that it is finally available.
Our First Sea Glass Production Run
A lot has happened since I first pursued the idea of Académie Hair. I’m deeply thankful for where we are today. Looking back, this process has help to push me beyond the boundaries of comfort. Working many late nights through multiple time zones, I secured packaging and navigated the nuances of regulatory procedures. Hundreds of hours of meetings followed (with countless more to come). I was present at my LA-based manufacturer for our first production run (emotional to say the least). Sea Glass footage has been captured on every single trip I’ve taken since 2023. Now, I’m going through the process of sharing the news of this launch with my beloved Beauty Professor community and beyond.
Developing the Académie Hair has been an intense labor of love. I’ve been on God’s timetable along the way as I earnestly work to build this brand through expansion. With additional products in the pipeline, I am so excited for what is to come. In the meanwhile, Sea Glass is the hero product that has become my hair habit and I never want to be without it.
