Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows…a Review with Swatches of Every Shade!

Above: With names reminiscent of an evening sky, the Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows are superb.
I have had the distinct pleasure of experimenting with the glorious Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows, new for Fall 2014, for nearly a month.  Pigmented and luminescent, with an extremely stalwart and creaseless wear time, these silky wonders are simply stellar!

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches of each shade, images of the eye shadow in action (in two separate looks!) as well as the Bottom Line…
Above: Six ultra-wearable shades with a luminous satin finish and absolutely no fallout!
Here are the official details, courtesy of Nordstrom:
Jouer Long Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow offers long-wear, high-impact shimmer with a formula rich in marine botanicals. It blends effortlessly while firming the eyelids and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. The crease-resistant shadow provides ease in application with a smooth, velvety finish.
How to use: Apply with fingertips across eyelids. Layer as needed for a more dramatic look.
  • 0.18 oz.
  • By Jouer; made in the USA.

Isododecane, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Behenyl Methacrylate t-Butyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Polysilicone-11 , Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Bismuth Oxychloride, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Alaria esculenta extract. MAY CONTAIN: +/- Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470).
The most sublime assets of these shadows are their TEXTURE, FINISH, WEAR TIME and SHADES:
TEXTURE:  In the jar, the shadows are very bouncy and silky smooth…they glide onto the eye with ease, blend well and build to maximum intensity with a single layer.  Because the formula is so creamy, there is no fallout; the shadow comfortably adheres where applied.
FINISH: Each of the shades has a luminous finish that brightens the eye with a satin effect that is glowing without being glittery.  When built up to a second coat, the satin finish visually transforms to a stunning, nearly “wet effect.”
WEAR TIME: I am beyond impressed with how well this formula wears.  Once applied it does not budge…no creasing, no migrating, no flaking and no smearing.  My eyes feel comfortable for hours of wear and my sensitive, contact lense-ridden eyes do not experience an ounce of irritation!

  • Dusk: A mink taupe with warm golden undertones.
  • Moonlight: A soft beige cream with golden champagne undertones.
  • Twilight: A complex charcoal with deep blue and silver undertones.
  • Starlight: A soft, icy pink with cool silver undertones.
  • Galaxy: A neutral medium brown with platinum undertones.
  • Night Sky: A khaki olive green with golden undertones.

Above: Dusk…a must for taupe lovers.
Above: Moonlight…creamy champagne golden goodness.
Above: Twilight…an extremely wearable medium charcoal with a twist of blue.
Above: Starlight…an icy pale pink for which the browbones beckon.
Above: Galaxy…a neutral medium brown that will compliment and enhance every eye color.

To demonstrate the wearability of the Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows, I created two eye looks.  Look #1 harnesses the power of warm taupes, browns and creams, using the neutral brown Galaxy, taupy mink Dusk and golden-laced Moonlight.

Above: I first covered the eye lid with Galaxy and followed with Dusk, blended towards the brow bone.  Moonlight was the perfect shade to capture light along the brow bone.  I blended a touch of Dusk along the lower lash line for continuity.
Above: The “wet look” shine I mentioned earlier in the post…so divine.

For Look #2, I blended the golden khaki Night Sky, muted charcoal Twilight and icy pink Starlight for my own take on a subtly smoky eye.

Above: I covered my lid in Night Sky, blended Twilight in the crease and added a touch of Starlight along the brow bone  for a spot of highlight.

Bottom Line: The Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows are, as aforementioned, utterly stellar.  The flattering hues are endlessly wearable and truly live up to their long-wear moniker.  Highly recommended!
Much more soon, including more (!) foundation, a skincare update, Gucci Round II, more fall releases and a haircare post ; )

    Hi Dear NP !
So gorgeous eye makeup ! Sadly we dont have this brand here.
Love what you did to your hairs !

I'd like to ask you a question about the Kanebo Sensai CP cream foundation. I've seen a new packaging today and was wondering if they changed the formula !!! The SA wasnt able to answer me. 🙁

    New packaging$productlistpage$

Have you any informations about this ?
I was planning to get a new one, hope it will be as good as the old version !

      Hi Michelle…thanks!

I wish I knew the details on the new Kanebo foundation…I imagine that it is the same but since the line left the States, it's been impossible for me to get the latest info : (

Let me know what you think if you end up getting it!

Thank you for the answer !
I tried it ! And looove it ! the SA told me that it's lighter than the old version but everything stays as good or even better. And it is !
It has enought coverage to coveer my little dark spots ! It looks natural, gives some glow and last all day. The colors Numbers didn't change apparently. I was using CP13, the new CP13 is the same color. I really enjoy it and will purchase the full size. I'm using the Guerlain les voilettes pressed powder against my oily t-zone.
But before to splurge i would like to have your thoughts about the other foundations. What's your favourite for normal skin with oily t-zone.

My pleasure! Oh my gosh, that is exciting news. I am definitely going to bit the bullet and order it!!!

Right now, my favorite foundation is the Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting foundation…perfect for normal to combination skin and it lasts forever!

Yayay! So pretty!!! How does the wear time and shimmer compare to ByTerry bronze moon for example? Do you apply with finger or brush?
There are some very pretty colors!!! Thanks for this very thorough post and wonderful swatches!!

      Thanks, SJ!!

I find that the wear time is equal (!!) to the By Terry Ombre Blackstars, though the Jouer are a bit more shimmery overall. I just apply with a small domed eyeshadow brush and it blends like a dream!

Happy almost weekend…xx and talk soon,

Rachel, I wanted to ask you, have you gotten a chance to try the new foundation from Dolce&Gabbana? I know being a fellow foundation lover, you'd probably be weighing in on it soon and I can't wait to hear your thoughts…I've been wearing it for about 2 weeks and am completely smitten!
As always, thank you for all you do and I hope you had a lovely weekend!!
    All my best,

I was enjouying the shadows until your braid completely stole the show, stunning :p LOL! How do these compare to the Chanel Illusion d' Ombres? I'm addicted to the ones I have, but some are just too glittery and I am over 40!

      Hi Bella,

Your comment made me smile…thanks ; ) I find these shadows to be VERY similar to the Chanel Illusion d'Ombres, though I daresay I get even better lasting power from the Jouer. They do have some shimmer but it's fairly refined rather than glittery…at least in my experience!

Oh my goodness, your hair looks fabulous!! I'm also curious how the longevity compares to By Terry Ombre Blackstar? I use the color Blond Opal to work, as it just makes my eyelids look nice and glossy and very minimalistic. And I wear Misty Rock or Bronze Moon at night (your recommendations of course!). I'm contemplating getting the Jouer Moonlight; is it similar to Blond Opal? I've actually never used a cream eyeshadow in a pot…I tend to use only the sticks. So how do you put them on? Fingers? Any particular brush you enjoy using?

      Hello MG!

Thank you ever so much! I find that the Jouer last nearly as long as the By Terry Ombre Blackstar…the formula is quite impressive. Jouer Moonlight is definitely in the same realm as the By Terry Blond Opal and would be perfect for a minimalist look. I just use a little Hakuhodo tapered brush (made of blue squirrel) and it blends effortlessly!

I hope all is well in your life…xoxo and talk soon,
