Three generations…BP, Johannah Elle and Laura Lynn.
I am of the persuasion that if you’re a mom, a caretaker, an aunt, a mentor, an educator or the like, then, to some extent, everyday is Mother’s Day!
That being said, the actual Mother’s Day is exactly a week away and I am excited to share some treasured advice that my mom (and Beauty Professor assistant!), Laura, has shared with me that I embrace to this day as well as a look at a myriad of innovative skincare favorites that I highly and wholly recommend for gifting both to those mother figures in your life and yourself.
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of everything in action as well as the Bottom Line…

What My Mom Taught Me: A Mother’s Day Look at Skincare and Other Beauty Favorites

My mom, Laura, has been my beauty icon for as long as I can remember. Her aesthetic is the perfect balance of polished-yet-natural and I consistently embrace the beauty perspectives that she has given me over the years. Now that I have my own daughter, Johannah Elle, I know exactly what of my mom’s advice I’ll be passing on to her:

(1) Wash Your Face:

My mom impressed upon me that it doesn’t matter how tired you are, you should always wash your face before going to bed. Some of my favorite gentle and luxurious cleansers include the *Retrouve Luminous Cleansing Elixir, who’s balm texture leaves skin feeling balanced and hydrated and the *Ranavat Luminous Ceremony Cream Cleanser, which includes a decadent dose of saffron for brightening, restoring and lifting one’s senses while removing every last trace of dirt and makeup.

(2) Don’t (Over) Pluck Your Brows:

My currently full brows can thank the “hands off” policy (save for eradicating an errant stray here or there) I had growing up. To increase the look of volume of brows, I suggest the Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel in the neutral medium brown Chestnut (comes in 5 hues and is often sold out but I found it in stock at Nordstrom) and the clear Surratt Expressioniste Brow Pomade for a feathery effect.

(3) A Light Pink Lip Is Universally Flattering:

The trends will dictate a rich berry for one season and a classic nude for the next, but nothing looks as timelessly fresh and beautiful on all ages and skin tones then a slightly glowy light pink lip. My favorite combination to achieve this look involves the Laura Mercier Rosewood Longwear Lip Liner and the Sisley-Paris Phyto-Lip Twist in #10 Sugar

(4) Keep It Classic:

Even skin and bronzed cheeks never go out of style and lightweight and customizable foundation formulas like Chantecaille Future Skin (my summer match is Sand) and the Cle de Peau Radiant Cushion Compact take skin to the next level while still looking abundantly natural. For bronzer, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light takes care of business in a single swipe. Sometimes less really is more!

(5) Inner Beauty First:

Taking care of one’s insides will reflect on the outside…for example, a kind heart and warm spirit undeniably contribute to overall beauty. Additionally, what we ingest has an effect as well. I suggest The Beauty Chef Inner Glow Powder, which is rife with superfoods and probiotics for gut health and the Knesko Skin Nano Gold Travel Set, which, with its energy charged masks and accompanying jade roller, assists with healing and well being.

(6) Bangs Aren’t for Everyone

Years ago, I didn’t pay heed to this advice and learned quickly that mom knows best. Let’s just say that the day I got bangs was also the day I started growing them out! If you’re in a similar boat, try the Oribe Gold Lust Power Drops which nourish your hair while protecting against heat styling as you grow out that fringe!

*Ranavat Luminous Ceremony Cleanser (reviewed HERE):

A saffron-infused cream cleanser that lifts the senses while removing every bit of dirt and makeup…I use it daily!

*Supergoop! Glow Screen (reviewed HERE):

If you are looking for a new sunscreen for the summer, I implore you to try this radiant formula with SPF 40 protection. It creates a translucent veil of luminosity on the skin…the face seriously looks lit-from-within…and the formula even acts as a primer for makeup should you wish to apply. I can’t stop using it! **Laura Lynn approved

BY TERRY Hyaluronic Primer (reviewed HERE):

I have used the BY TERRY primer for years; excellent for skin of all ages (including dry and mature) this hyaluronic acid-rich formula smooths pores and fine lines, creating a porcelain canvas for any makeup applied. It’s luxurious effective! **Laura Lynn approved

*Parfums de Marly Delina EDP (reviewed HERE):

A niche fragrance house creates perfumes on an entirely different level that make the results investment-worthy. Crafted in small batches in France, the uniquely alluring Delina combines floral, fruit, cream and musk notes for the most intoxicating effect…it’s singular in its execution while still having mass appeal and I wear it frequently. For Mother’s Day, I’ve partnered with the brand to offer some exclusive gifts with purchase, including luxury gift wrapping, a luxury discovery set ($32 value), additional samples and a personalized greeting card. Simply use code Beautyprofessor at checkout on any purchase of $200 or more to access this once in a lifetime set of perks (including a gorgeous Delina candle!) for any purchase on the site!

*Parfums de Marly Delina Hand Cream:

My mom and I both love this rich yet weightless hand cream in the Delina scent to moisturize (all that hand washing takes a toll, no?) while lifting one’s senses. Don’t forget to use the code Beautyprofessor for Mother’s Day additions! **Laura Lynn approved

*Sisley Self Tanner for Face (reviewed HERE):

This recently reformulated self tanner creates the most believable true brown tan bronze result. Because it is a moisturizer as well, you can skip redundant skincare steps and enjoy results in a few hours. I cannot recommend this enough if you want a natural brown glow.

Surratt Beauty Artistique Cheek Brush (reviewed HERE):

I’ve used this brush for over five years for every powder cheek product imaginable (bronzer, blush, highlight!). The super soft bristles evenly distribute makeup while blending it out like a dream…if I had to have only one brush for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I hope that hypothetical speaks for itself.

*Fillerina Lip Plump (reviewed HERE):

Featuring the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid to fill in fine lines and plump the lips. It has genius formula works on the long term (give it time!) to deliver beautiful lip-plumping results. I am especially impressed with how it’s diminished the micro lines above my upper lip. Who else is an avid straw user?

*Jenny Patinkin Rose Gold Eye Lash Curler:

Introduce your lashes to pure luxury with this new eyelash curler. What makes this one better than the version you may already have at home? Let me tell you! Jenny custom designed her curler by flattening the shape of the curve to fit more eye shapes, made the finger loops a touch smaller for enhanced control and the white bumper pad (a brighter shade helps with place, ment) is extra firm for more curl with less pressure. It’s the lash curler you never knew you needed…but now you do! **Laura Lynn approved

*True & Luscious Flowerdose Lip & Eye Serum:

I love supporting indie beauty brands and True & Luscious–clean, green, cruelty-free and great for sensitive skin–definitely fulfills the qualifications. This dual purposed serum hydrates the delicate areas of eyes and mouth while reducing the look of fine lines…it’s handbag and travel friendly and rife with an array of effective ingredients.

*City Beauty Tinseltown Lip Plumper  (reviewed HERE):

My mom and I have been ardent fans of the plumping power of City Lips for nearly a decade and this radiant baby pink shade makes lips look their absolute fullest immediately and on the long term…it must be tried to be believed. **Laura Lynn approved

*Laura Mercier Lip Balm:

A lush and hydrating balm with a weightless finish, this is the perfect base to protect your pout before applying lipstick.
