Happy May! Spring is in full bloom, ushering in soft colors, bronzed skin and effortless looks that work well in warmer weather. In turn, today’s video and story feature a soft spring makeup tutorial and neutral style ensemble, just in time for the sunny months ahead. Due to a myriad of recent questions from the Beauty Professor community, I’ve also included a comparison between the ZIIP and Tripolar devices as well as a closeup of all three sizes of the brilliant KUSSHI makeup bags.
Kindly scroll on for the video, product breakdown, swatches and images of everything in action as well as the Bottom Line…
Soft Spring Makeup Tutorial
// Step 1: Hair and Skincare //
I started with the T3 Volumizing Hot Rollers. I use this set multiple times a week on my thick layered hair to add fullness and curls that last the day. And I love that these velvet flocked rollers never get tangled in my hair and even though they are effective, they only expose my hair to a minimum level of heat for less damage on the long term. I’ve tried many hot roller sets over the years and these are truly the best of the best. Then, after cleansing skin, I follow with the brand new *Chantecaille Purifying and Exfoliating Phytoactive Solution, which I’ve been diligently testing for the past month. The solution refines, clarifies and brightens without irritation and my skin looks and feels so smooth upon application.
For serum, I apply a few drops of the silky *BioEffect EFG Serum, which enlivens and hydrates while increasing skin density with consistent usage. For moisturizer, I use the Augustinus Bader Cream daily. The plush formulation bathes skin hydration while absorbing immediately for a bouncy glow that truly makes skin look and behave in a younger manner. Finally, for the orbital area, a single pump of the Agent Nateur Holi Glow fights fine lines and wrinkles while making the windows to your soul look lit from within.
// Step 2: Beauty Devices //
Because I use both and share my experiences regularly, I frequently receive questions about the *ZIIP (use BP20 for 20% off always + a $50 ZIIP gift card now through 5/9) and *TriPollar ( use Rachel -20 at checkout for 20% off) and what their differences are in terms of operation and benefits. In my tutorial, I breakdown exactly how each one works (ZIIP involves micro current and nano current and TriPollar uses radio frequency…even more on both HERE) and how the skin is distinctly improved by implementing both into one’s routine. Lately, I prefer to use the ZIIP in the morning and the TriPollar at night and I typically use both 2-3 times a week when I am at my most committed. These devices absolutely deliver clear and measurable results but, as with anything worthwhile, consistency is key.
// Step 3: Base + Face //
Although I didn’t get a chance to show the application of this tinted illuminator in my video, I almost always use a pea sized amount of Le Metier de Beauté Peau Vierge post-moisturizer and before foundation. Then, I blended a pump and half of the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation 6.5 all over my face for a medium coverage canvas that looks like real skin. Under eyes, I swiped a touch of the Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in Buff (swatches of all shades HERE…a little goes a long way!) and swept the recently reformulated *Guerlain Bronzer Medium Warm #3 (additional shade swatches HERE) with the *Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer Brush along the hollows of my cheeks and perimeters of my face for subtle contour and warmth that stays in place all day.
For cheeks, I applied the slightly shimmery *Saint Cosmetics Blush in Frose and used a bit of the *BY TERRY CC Palette Beach Bomb (also reviewed HERE) for a diffused neutral pink glow that makes skin look positively filtered. To extend this spring makeup look, I added a light dusting of the *Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Glow Powder 6.5 and a touch of the luminous Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter in 4.5 for an otherworldly incandescence on the high points of my face. I also suggest the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, which adds a soft dewy dimension while holding makeup in place for hours on end.
// Step 4: Eyes //
My soft spring eye look is a simple one, with the Tom Ford Golden Peach cream and powder eyeshadow at the core. I use my fingers to apply the glossy cream and then top it with the coordinating golden shimmer powder for a crease free eye that brightens the face without overpowering. Then, I add a touch of the ultra smooth and long lasting *Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner in Ash along my waterline to make eyes pop. For brows, I’ve been loving the *Kosas Air Brow Dark Brown topped with a bit of the Clear for a feathery, fluffy and laminated brow look that is equal parts polished and natural. Two coats of the tubing Thrive Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara for volume and length and the eye look is complete.
// Step 5: Tea Break //
I am diligently trying to stay as hydrated as possible and one method that makes my water consumption easier is to put it over ice in my Yeti Rambler Tumbler, which keeps beverages cold for an interminable amount of hours. I’ve really been enjoying the *Pique Sun Goddess Matcha Tea (Use BP5 at checkout for a discount) as it’s extremely pure, antioxidant rich and finely milled so it dissolves into water of any temperature. To further fortify my drink, I add a scoop of the Agent Nateur Holi Mane (also available at Agent Nateur…use Agentrachel for 15% off) which features a blend of high quality marine collagen and pearl powder for stronger and more nourished hair, skin and nails. I’m already on my second bag and am so pleased with the consistent results of this supplement. Try it and you’ll be stunned at the transformation.
// Step 6: LIPS //
For this tutorial, I decided to showcase two different lip looks. During the early part of the video, I was wearing a bit of the peachy nude Laura Mercier Baby Lips Liner on my otherwise bare face. Then, I follow with the gorgeous Huda Beauty Lip Contour Muted Pink (it’s creamy and extremely long lasting…will need a back up soon) topped with the wildly pale pinky beige *LAWLESS Platinum Lipstick (other LAWLESS lipstick shades swatched HERE). The combination, I kid you not, makes lips look so pillowy.
My second look involves the *Lancome Lip liner in Rosy (a perfect mid-toned pink) with the Pat McGrath Skinsane Lipstick (a lifetime favorite) on top. This combination is peachier and more neutral than the first mix, making this spring look extremely easy to adapt and change up per your preferences. FYI, I used my beloved *Venus et Fleur small square arrangement with blush roses and a black box as a background for my lip color choices.
// Step 7: Body, Fragrance + a Makeup Bag Comparison //
For moisturized limbs, I’m loving the new *Sisley Black Rose Beautifying Emulsion Hydrating Satin Body Veil, which is lightweight yet potent for a new experience with total body hydration. In terms of fragrance, there is nothing more feminine and springtime inspired than the *Parfums de Marly Delina. With creamy notes of Turkish rose, lychee and vanilla musk, this lilting juice immediately lifts the spirits with an invigorating and sensual allure. Currently, I am happy to be able to offer a Delina mini shower gel and Delina vial box (with all three Delina versions…images of these bonus gifts HERE!) with the purchase of any feminine Parfums de Marly fragrance (now through 5/15) upon checkout with code BeautyProfessor.
Finally, I am excited to show you a first look at the brand new *KUSSHI Vegan Leather Bags. I’ve discussed KUSSHI countless times in the past as their makeup bags rank amongst my very favorite (here’s a look at my Camel leather version). The solid craftsmanship, gold plated hardware, wide bottom base (no makeup bag counter spills!) and zip out/washable interiors along with a spectrum of customizations makes the luxurious KUSSHI the gold standard in cosmetic bags in my experience and the number one question I get is what the difference between the three sizes is.
The video gives you a complete overview of all three and here they are below for reference:
- The Everyday: (5” h x 7 ½” w x 3 ¼” d) Great for daily makeup on the go, this bag will fit into most handbags with room to spare.
- The Signature: (6” h x 11 ½” w x 5” d) My favorite for all of my makeup needs over the course of the week, I keep one one my bathroom counter and another in my travel bag.
- The Vacationer: (7” h x 13” w x 5 ¾” d) The largest KUSSHI available, this robust bag will effortlessly hold all of your skincare and makeup for a weekend or a week away.
The following images reflect all products in action in late afternoon sunlight…
// STYLE NOTES //
This timeless neutral outfit of the day involves these faux-leather Commando Shorts, which I am wearing in a size medium. The lightweight material, higher waist, slash pockets and thigh grazing length feel just right for spring and can be dressed up or down with ease. Under my extra soft beige cropped cardigan sweater (currently half off, I might add!) I am wearing a green Free People Rockie Bralette (other colors in my wardrobe shown below). This layering piece provides great support and coverage while feeling like absolutely nothing on the body…it’s for these reasons that I’ve purchased this bralette in five shades. Finally, I was able to show you my trusty Adidas NMD R1 tennis shoes in the video…they are, by far, the most comfortable sneakers I own. Try them once and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Why do I STILL not have golden peach??
I have been reading your blog and following you on social media for years and years. I swear, your hair has never looked better. Would you say it’s the marine collagen supplement that has made it ultra thick and shiny lately?
