Welcome to Fall: New Tom Ford + Byredo Beauty and Moisturizers for All Skin Types

Fall is in full swing. Between days with Joey Elle, teaching 7 college classes and going through a kitchen renovation (pictures to follow!). I’ve been actively testing new fall makeup and skincare and integrating more autumnal pieces into my wardrobe.

Consequently, today’s post features everything I’ve discovered and loved as of late with, of course swatches galore.

// TOM FORD BEAUTY LAUNCHES //

First, Tom Ford Beauty has an array of recent releases and I picked up the Shade & Illuminate Blush in Peach Poison and Shade & Illuminate Concealer in Hazel.

The blush is dual sided for a custom flush. It features a velvety and buildable texture that creates a multidimensional wash of color. I was initially attracted to Peach Poison as it seems to offer the potential for bronzer and blush in one and a little goes a long way to sculpt and brighten the face. Because of its neutrality, I can imagine this particular duo looking gorgeous on a spectrum of skin tones!

The hyaluronic acid-rich Shade & Illuminate Concealer is creamy and smooth with instant full coverage (that still looks like real skin) in a single pass. It feels incredibly nourishing on the skin. Also, it works wonders on darkness (especially in the orbital area) while resisting creasing and pooling. I love the slightly apricot undertones of Hazel. Also picked up Golden (swatched below) as my everyday shade when my end-of-summer tan has faded. This concealer, while at an investment-level price point, performs beautifully. If you found the Tom Ford Emotion-Proof concealer to be a touch too dry, I think you’ll be extremely pleased with this particular version as it’s hydrating yet long lasting.

While in-store, I engaged in some early days of Beauty Professor guerrilla swatching and was able to capture all 20 concealer shades for your reference. Hope the below is extraordinarily helpful!

// BYREDO BEAUTY //

Next, I’ve had my eye on the Byredo Beauty line since its debut last year and am thrilled that it is now officially available at Nordstrom.

I picked up the Byredo Eyeliner in Technical Black, which possesses jet black liquid color payoff and a slightly glossy finish that stays in place all day (rare!) for a precision cat eye that pops. With autumn in mind, I also chose the Byredo Vieux Rose Lipstick; it’s a slightly shimmering plum toned rose that is completely unique in my collection.

I ordered both pieces online and am very pleased with my purchases. Also, both are a fresh addition to my routine and I know I’ll get plenty of use from them this season.

// FOUNDATION //

For foundation, I’ve been bouncing between two new formulas. Full disclosure, I first saw the Bobbi Brown Intensive Serum Foundation SPF 40/30 in an ad on social media and was so compelled by the smooth and skin-like texture in the application video that I went and purchased my best match, which, in this case, is Honey. The foundation has a thin liquid texture with a touch of viscosity so it glides over skin, imparting instant medium-to-full coverage and a nourished, slightly plumped look that resists creasing and wears all day.

The classic Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Complexion Enhancer has undergone a reformulation and I couldn’t be happier. The original formula was a frequent inclusion in the early days of Beauty Professor but I always wished that this high coverage gem was fragrance-free. The new version completely is without fragrance and also is waterproof, which is another great enhancement. Just a touch creates perfected skin (it feels lightweight and breathable, I might add) and its buildable from sheer to full++ coverage (like a heavy duty concealer) with a modicum of product. I believe my best match is #11 which should be arriving any day but in the meanwhile, I’ve swatched 7, 9 and 10 below for reference.

For lips, I am loving the new Bobbi Brown Luxe Defining Lipstick in Romance and Violet Vision. The streamlined bullet feels more like a lip liner than a lipstick but the precision point (which includes a built in sharpener) applies the creamy and moisturizing formula with ease. The color payoff is high intensity and long-wear and the formula itself feels different than any Bobbi Brown lipstick I’ve tried in a long time. Romance is a rosy nude beige (excellent for over-lining lips a touch) and Violet Vision is a gorgeous pinky mauve (definitely more pink than violet). Try them…they’re simply, in a word, resplendent.

A fall moisturizer for every skin need.

// FOR SKIN //

As the temperatures drop, our need for moisture increases. So, I’ve gathered five formulations to give your skin an extra dose of hydration in a flash. Each of these formulas have different textures and ingredients to suit a diverse range of skin types.

For instant moisture that looks like you just drank 80 ounces of water, the glossy U Beauty The Super Hydrator is dewy and divine. In this category, I also adore the Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, which is equally hydrating and makes skin look preternaturally bouncy and well taken care of.

If you’re in search of something a touch more weightless, the Guerlain Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil, as its name implies, is a hybrid biphasic hybrid that is immediately absorbed while delivering a cloak of moisture. For an even more pronounced beauty oil, the highly lauded Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Multi Repair Oil is magnificent. It calms the skin while restoring its natural beauty. Also, it can even be mixed into a foundation for a more incandescent effect.

Finally, when your skin needs the most, the iconic Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask is an excellent solution. Slather it on and enjoy 15 minutes of repose; upon rinsing, your skin will feel buttery, balanced and baby soft with a tender glow.

In this general skincare realm, I’ve also been using a great deal of the Omorovicza Gentle Buffing Gelee (gentle daily exfoliation with zero irritation), the Agent Nateur Holi Oil Ageless Body Serum (which makes my limbs so hydrated with an ethereal luminosity) and, for hair that catches the light at every turn, the Oribe Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine.

Other products on heavy fall rotation.
Finishing touches.

// FINISHING TOUCHES //

For the look that follows, finishing touches that are always in my bag include the Tom Ford Golden Peach, which I use multiple times a week. The shimmery nude peach tone always works in a pinch. Also, in this case provides the quintessential backdrop for liquid liner. Equally crease-free and lovely is the Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick in Nude Rose, which I use to brighten my eyes on the go. It’s luminous without being glittery and once it sets, it does not budge. For highlight, I love the compact yet powerful  Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand; the gel-cream texture adds the bounciest light to the face while remaining chic and subtle.

For fragrance, I’ve been unexpectedly enjoying the Mugler Alien Goddess EDPAlthough the name doesn’t call to me the juice within is a delight. Isn’t it funny how a moniker can play a subtle role in fragrance attraction? Warm and sparkling with notes of bergamot, jasmine and vanilla, it’s fresh and alluring with just the right amount of sweetness.

Style Notes I.

// STYLE NOTES I // A twinset of epic proportions. This set includes a midi skirt for endless integrations into your wardrobe.

  • Reformation Midi Set: This beautiful camel-hued trio (I’m wearing a size medium) is currently on sale. Also, I am taken by the Hitchcockian-heroine vibe it transmits. The cropped camisole is lush and pairs well with the bolero cardigan. The high waisted midi skirt is slim without being overtly tight. I can’t wait to find ways to wear all three pieces with other elements in my closet.
  • Schutz Sandals: These clear sandals have been my go-to since the summer; they are minimalist and chic and match everything. Highly recommended.

Style Notes II.

// STYLE NOTES II // Casual layers that add a dash of polish while feeling incredibly relaxed.

  • Free People Camisole: This cropped top is soft yet supportive and the ribbed texture makes it the perfect base piece while being substantial enough to stand on its own. I’ll be picking this up in multiple shades!
  • Straight Leg Trousers: I’ve been looking for a pair of pants with this exact 1940s cut for awhile and love how they drape and flow. They’re high waisted with slash pockets and plenty of length. I’m 5’9″ and wearing a size 8 here. So, I can wear them with a heel whenever the occasion calls.
  • Topshop Floral Satin Button Up: Equal parts retro and relaxed, this blouse has such a fun energy and is bound to earn compliments…to switch things up, I’ll be pairing it with black skinny jeans and some stiletto sandals for dinner next week.
  • FitFlops Slide Sandal: These sandals are like walking on a cloud; cut from a single piece of leather, they require no breaking in and feel exceptional for long walks and hardwood/tile floors alike.

    Thank you for the swatches! I’m always very appreciative of these. Thank you! I’ve fallen out of makeup lately and have been focusing on skin and devices. However, some concealer can work wonders for zoom calls! 🙂 Tempted to try the Tom Ford blush but I’m having a difficult time deciding which one. They all look so pretty! Best Wishes.
